💬"R U OK?" starts with a conversation.

At playgroup, conversations happen every day. Between snack time, messy play and chasing toddlers, parents and families connect with people who understand the joys and challenges of raising children.

Sometimes those conversations are the first step to finding support.

If you are struggling, feeling overwhelmed, or concerned about someone in your community, reaching out is a sign of strength.

🧠Mapping the Human Body🧠

Our kindergarten children have been deeply engaged in discussing our body parts and their individual purposes. Stemming from a conversation during our morning minutes, a child expressed interest in discussing what our body parts are actually for such as eyes for looking and lungs for breathing which sparked a collaborative conversation that had all the children curious.

To extend this meaningful conversation and support the children’s curious interests in the human body, our educators purposefully put out body part puzzle that same day. This created many more rich conversations, which eventually led the children and educators to form the idea of drawing our bodies onto large paper to explore what we need to survive.

As you can see from their wonderful creation, two collaborative teams worked together to create two incredible images of the human body. Taking inspiration from real x-rays and images of internal organs, the children used bold black lines to represent the bones that structure and protect bodies and added our lungs, bladder, heart, brain, blood, eyes, throat and all the important parts that make up our body. 🫁

This has been a truly wonderful experience for our kindergarten children to understand why it is so important to look after our bodies, especially because of all the vital parts inside that keep us breathing, moving and feeling.🫀

Witnessing the minds of these curious children each day here at Como Park makes us incredibly proud of just how capable and competent they are as learners.

🐾Living Safely With Dogs Incursion🐾

Today, our Kinders had a very special visit from responsible pet ownership education program, who brought along their wonderful dog, Harper 🐶

Our kindergarten children learnt some very important strategies for staying safe around dogs they are unfamiliar with, including what to do if they come across a dog off-lead that may be frightened, angry or unsafe.
-Stop, Stand still
-Hands by your side
-Quiet as a mouse
-Eyes look at the ground
And practiced repeating the saying: “No owner, No lead, No touching.”

Because dogs can’t speak and tell us how they feel, we need to look for signs in their body language. We looked at pictures of scared, angry and happy dogs. The scared dog had floppy ears and tail and was shaking and crying. The angry dog had big eyes, big teeth, a stiff tail and hair standing up. The happy dog had a wagging tail, its tongue out and looked relaxed and playful.

After all the wonderful discussions on how to approach a dog and when we should avoid a dog it was finally time to officially meet Harper. Children each took turns practicing how to politely approach a person and their dog on-lead, remembering to always ask, “Can I please pat your dog?” 3 big steps away before approaching. The children learnt to let the dog sniff them first, move to the side of the dog, gently patting from the bottom of the neck towards the back. Our Kinders were so patient as they waited for their turn to meet Harper🐶

Harper was an absolute superstar, so gentle and calm, loving all the attention and pats from the children!

A big thank you to the responsible pet ownership program and Harper for helping us learn such important lessons about being safe and respectful around dogs.

Tracie said that our group of Kindergarten children asked so many wonderful questions, some she had never heard before! We are so proud of our curious learners during todays session.

What a wonderful time we had coming together to disco for SUDI. It was so lovely to see everyone dancing, laughing and sharing the space together.
The younger children loved joining in with the dance party as we all grouped together in our kinder room with party lights and streamers.

We began with an Acknowledgement of Country before turning on our favourite dance tunes and getting ready to boogie!

Some amazing moves were busted out 🕺💃🪩 with some of our older children showing us the worm ! Which left everyone with big smiles on their face full of joy.

We loved seeing so many friends dressed in red today and in their favourite Book Week characters throughout the week.

A big thank you to everyone getting involved, we are so lucky to be part of such a wonderful community coming together to support Sudden unexpected death in infancy (SUDI).

🌿 Why We Love Open-Ended Play at Como Park🌿

A stick can become a fishing rod, a magic wand or the opportunity to cook up a delicious meal 🪵

Who wouldn’t want a taste of this yummy meal made by our creative learners! There was so much thought and loved poured into it (quiet literally) 🙈

At Como Park we plan our environment around open-ended resources that encourage children to use their imagination rather than relying on toys with only one purpose.

By providing natural and loose parts, children develop:
✨ Creativity and Imagination
✨ Critical thinking and problem solving
✨ Collaboration
✨ Confidence in their own ideas

There is no right or wrong way to play, just endless possibilities.

At Como Park, our community is built on relationships and strong communication with families, and is an established practice that we take pride in.

We prioritise meaningful handovers in the mornings and afternoons, so you can leave each day feeling confident and informed about how your child’s day has been while at Como.

We intentionally choose paper-based communication, allowing our educators to focus on building genuine relationships and sharing important updates directly with families, rather than relying on apps to share information.

The benefits are proven in our strong partnerships with children and families, throughout the day our educators can focus on being present for each and every child, allowing us to collaborate more in depth with families daily, about their child’s learning, development and needs.

At the end of each day, you can focus on having meaningful conversations with your child, and here it from their perspectives!

Need inspiration? We have you covered 🌿
