Our centre marked NSW Languages Week 2025 by securing a small grant to enhance language resources and incorporate local Yuwaalaraay language for room names, aligned with stage learning, Acknowledgement of Country, and greetings. Additional activities included Wirringaa Lingo Bingo, language trivia, and a well-attended social gathering featuring household and garden prizes, traditional bush teas, native grain bread, and foods. The unveiling of Centre signages was accompanied by entertainment from Dhuwi Gayaa Lightning Ridge Central School dancers, followed by morning tea and a community barbecue. This celebration facilitated collaboration among Aboriginal community stakeholders and members to acknowledge our shared past, present, and future. Appreciation is extended to the Aboriginal Languages Trust, Lightning Ridge Aboriginal Land Council, Barriekneal Housing & Community Ltd, Dhuwi Gayaa School dancers, Wirringaa Aboriginal Elders Group, Aunty Rhonda Ashby, Uncle Lawrence Walford, Aunty Brenda McBide, Creed Gordon, and the entire Walanbaa Dhurrali Aboriginal Children & Family Centre staff and children.
