Mrs Jacqui Thompson and Mrs Dani Aldred are extremely proud of our Leura PS debaters, who did an amazing job and won their first debate today. As the negative team, they presented strong arguments and effective rebuttals throughout the debate. They clearly explained why they disagreed with the idea of schools stopping the hiring of cleaners and making rule-breaking students do all the cleaning work. Their points were well supported and logical, highlighting that students need to be in class learning rather than spending time cleaning. They also argued that cleaning during breaks and after school could negatively affect students' mental health and wellbeing, and that exposure to cleaning tasks and chemicals could increase the risk of illness, leading to more absences from school. The team raised the important point that paid cleaners could lose their jobs if schools stopped hiring them. In addition, they explained that students may not be properly supervised while cleaning, which could create safety concerns. The team listened carefully to the opposing side and responded confidently with convincing counterarguments. (Evelyn is also part of the team)

What wonderful learning is happening in Kindergarten! ☀️
Our youngest learners have been busy ordering numbers, making groups and writing sentences as they continue to build strong foundations for learning. A particular highlight was the opportunity to draw on their desks! The excitement was palpable.🤗
It has been wonderful to see students so engaged, enthusiastic and eager to learn through hands-on experiences that encourage creativity, confidence and problem solving.
A huge thank you to Mrs Crystal Cook and Mrs Jacqui Crowe for fheir dedication, creativity and passion in inspiring our youngest learners each day. 💙✨

I absolutely loved visiting Year 5 today and learning all about the brain, its different parts and how they work together to control our bodies.
Students were highly engaged as they explored the functions of the frontal, parietal, temporal and occipital lobes, as well as the cerebellum and brain stem. Through hands-on learning, students created detailed brain models and confidently explained how each part contributes to movement, memory, learning, emotions, senses and coordination.
Mrs Bucholtz helped the students combine scientific knowledge with creativity, inquiry and hands-on investigation, she created rich learning experiences that encouraged students to think deeply, ask questions and communicate their understanding with confidence. It was wonderful to see students so engaged in both the science and the process of learning.
The lesson provided opportunities for students to apply their scientific understanding in creative ways, using models, diagrams and discussion to deepen their knowledge. I was incredibly impressed by the quality of student work and the depth of understanding students demonstrated as they explained how the different parts of the brain work together to help us think, learn, move and interact with the world around us.
A fantastic example of curiosity, creativity and high-quality learning in action, and I loved being a part of it.

On Friday, a group of LPS’s biggest readers journeyed to Town Hall for the Sydney Writer’s Festival primary school day for a fabulous and inspiring day with some incredible authors.
They met Kate Foster who told them all about Lauren the football shirt stealing Tasmanian Devil, RA Spratt who told them the story of Odysseus and the chocolate cake siren song, Yxavel Magno Diño who showed them the connection between Filipino folktales and Minecraft and Mick Elliott who launched 2 giant soccer balls that travelled the entire length of the hallowed and ornate town hall twice. Then, to loud and rapturous applause, superstar Dog Man author Dav Pilkey took to the stage to tell them all about the three big ideas that changed his life- positivity, practise and perseverance. 🏫🚊📚⚽️🐶
Thank you to the wonderful Mrs Lauren Halse for organising this excursion and to Ms Cassandra Music for helping to accompany the students for this incredible experience.
