This morning our R/1 Class had the wonderful opportunity to visit Uraidla & Hills Community Kindergarten for Science Week.
The students and preschoolers worked together to plant strawberry plants and sunflower seeds, exploring science through hands-on learning. They also shared a story about friendship, fostering meaningful connections between the younger and older children. Everyone enjoyed engaging in play-based activities, strengthening friendships and building a sense of community. It was an enriching experience for all, highlighting the value of learning together and making connections within our community. 🍓🌱📖

This morning our R/1 class enjoyed a memorable excursion to Restvale in Lobethal as part of their HASS learning.

Students engaged with residents by posing thoughtful questions about history and recording their answers. They made comparisons to their lives today and noticed the similarities and differences. The then shared their readers and library books in celebration of Book Week, and concluded the visit by singing “I Can Sing a Rainbow” using Auslan signs. It was a wonderful opportunity to connect with the community and enrich our learning together.

A big thank you to Restvale for having us today! 🌈📖❤

Today, we welcomed students and families to join us in celebrating Book Week!📖✨🎶
Students arrived dressed as their favourite book characters, proudly walking our 'cat walk' to share who they were and what they loved about their books and Book Week in general. The gym was transformed with impressive classroom displays, inviting families to explore students’ work, enjoy a morning tea or coffee, and share stories with the Year 3-6 students.

A special highlight was our Reception to Year 2 students engaging in a live Zoom session with author Andy Lee, who gave our school a personal shout-out and interacted with the group. We extend our heartfelt thanks to all families for your support, to Nicola for bringing our library to life with imagination and creativity, and to our dedicated staff for running such a successful and memorable day!

Our upper primary students have been enjoying using emerging technologies as a part of the Beacon program. Today we were lucky enough to use VR headsets to watch interactive videos to learn about pollution and societal waste. It doesn’t look like much from the photos, but our students were amazed by the things they were seeing with the headsets on!

Our Reception and Year 1 students have been busy exploring the Kitchen Garden program with Kylie and Miss Pharoah this term. Through hands-on cooking and gardening experiences, students have developed a range of valuable skills. Together, they’ve made delicious cupcakes and prepared pasta with homemade pasta sauce, using fresh ingredients from the garden.

In the garden, students have worked together to sow seeds and prepare our greenhouse, learning about plant lifecycles and how to care for young seedlings. They have also helped with weeding, discovering the importance of maintaining a healthy garden environment. These experiences have deepened their understanding of where food comes from and how much care goes into growing produce.

During cooking sessions, our students have built confidence in the kitchen, learning how to follow recipes, measure ingredients, and practice safe food handling. They have also worked on teamwork and communication skills, sharing utensils, taking turns, and helping each other during preparation and clean-up.

We can't wait to see what they do next! 👩‍🌾🥕🍅🍝☀

Last Thursday, Mrs Stafford paid a special visit to the R/1 classroom as a memorable culmination of the students’ learning about the past. She brought along a wonderful collection of old school reports, photos, and original readers to share with the children. Students posed questions about Mrs Stafford's experiences in the past from when she was a young girl and a teacher at Lenswood Primary School. 📸📖👩‍🏫

Mrs Stafford captivated the class with stories of school life many years ago. The students listened with fascination as she described how Year 6 boys would chop and collect firewood and matches to light a fire for the classroom. She spoke about children drinking milk in the mornings, the teacher writing on a blackboard, and the different uniforms students wore compared to today. 🪵🥛

The visit ended with a hands-on activity – students used jars, cream, and salt to make their own butter and buttermilk. Through this experience, they learned how, in the past, families did not have access to large shopping centres as we do now, and would often make items like butter at home. 🧈

We thank Mrs Stafford for sharing her stories and helping our students gain a deeper appreciation for life in the past!
