Welcome back to another year at The Reading Studio! We hope you all had a lovely break and are enjoying a wonderful start to the year!
January has flown by and classes at The Reading Studio start for Term one next week here at Berkelouw Books Leichhardt.

The Reading Studio is much more than a story time session. Our teachers know how to get children to engage with one another about the books they are reading. Activities are planned for classes with the idea that the earlier your child reads the more confident and able they will be in a school environment.

Our sessions run for 45 mins – 1 hour (depending on age group), in small groups.
Each session is $15 payable on the day.
You are welcome to commence at any point in the term, skip weeks, or come twice a week, as you like.

We run classes for 2-3, 3-4 and 4-5 year olds on Mondays and Tuesdays:
2-3 year olds 9:30am – 10.15am
3-4 year olds 10.30am – 11.15am
4-5 year olds 11.30am – 12.30am

Please contact us if you have any questions about our program.

Incredible Benefits of Reading with Children 01/10/2014

Give the gift of reading ...

Incredible Benefits of Reading with Children TV, video games, and computer games can soak up much of a child’s life. While these activities can hold some sort of value in their growth, they don’t compare to the benefits of reading. Reading is a gift in many different ways, and following are just a few of the benefits.

Here are some important literacy concepts for parents to be aware of.
*Sharing books is about beginning reading.
*Playing with rhymes is about learning word and letter sounds.
*Looking at ‘signs’ and ‘logos’ is about reading.
*‘Telling’ stories is about story structure.
*Playing word games is about learning the patterns of sounds.
*Re-enacting or re-telling a story is about remembering the sequence.
*Drawing and scribbling lead to writing.
