The Reading Studio

The Reading Studio Our teachers are early childhood specialists with a passion for children’s literature and a deep knowledge of how children learn to read and write English.

Research shows that children who read from an early age are more likely to succeed in later life. The Reading Studio teaches young children to read and write in a developmentally appropriate way.

*Our programme is based on the most up-to-date research on how young children learn to read and write.
*The Reading Studio was established by leading professionals in the fields of early childhood educat

ion and children’s literature.
*Our method allows children to develop their ability to think and express themselves creatively, analytically and independently.
*Our sessions allow children to socialise around literature which significantly enhances their language development.
*All books at The Reading Studio have been carefully chosen to provide children with a variety of genres, styles and themes.
*Major studies note the multiple benefits of early childhood engagement with reading and language development, including a love of learning, better school performance, self-confidence, and creative and critical thinking. "I already read to my kids. Why do I need The Reading Studio?"

The Reading Studio is much more than a story time session. Our teachers teach your children the skills required to read. They also know how to get children to engage with one another about the books they are reading. This is crucial for advanced language and comprehension skills. The earlier your child reads, the more confident and able they will be in a school environment.

Helpful advice to understand you children and reading stages.

A child’s reading progression isn’t based on age, so you need to know what stage your child is up to in order to help them.

Author Jacqueline Harvey dropped into our bookstore recently to sign her books and say hello. We know many young readers love Clementine Rose and Alice Miranda and how enthusiastic Jacqueline is about encouraging reluctant readers.
Here is a blog post Jacqueline directed us to when she visited:

Welcome back to another year at The Reading Studio! We hope you all had a lovely break and are enjoying a wonderful start to the year!
January has flown by and classes at The Reading Studio start for Term one next week here at Berkelouw Books Leichhardt.

The Reading Studio is much more than a story time session. Our teachers know how to get children to engage with one another about the books they are reading. Activities are planned for classes with the idea that the earlier your child reads the more confident and able they will be in a school environment.

Our sessions run for 45 mins – 1 hour (depending on age group), in small groups.
Each session is $15 payable on the day.
You are welcome to commence at any point in the term, skip weeks, or come twice a week, as you like.

We run classes for 2-3, 3-4 and 4-5 year olds on Mondays and Tuesdays:
2-3 year olds 9:30am – 10.15am
3-4 year olds 10.30am – 11.15am
4-5 year olds 11.30am – 12.30am

Please contact us if you have any questions about our program.

Research shows that children who have deep engagements with literature and literacy concepts from a young age enjoy greater school success. Our teachers know how to weave questions, discussion and instruction into the reading we undertake. The result is that children learn all the skills required to…
