In Art, the Junior Class celebrated the Glasgow Commonwealth Games by creating their own gold medals using salt dough. Students rolled, shaped and moulded the dough before cooking it in the oven to harden. Once cooled, the medals were painted gold and covered in gold glitter to make them sparkle.
Students look forward to wearing their handmade medals and celebrate their creativity and effort. 🏅

Our students enjoyed a special online meeting with 10 West Coast Eagles players, including Harley Reid, Bo Allan, Willem Duursma and Tom Gross. They learned what it takes to play AFL at the elite level, from the physical and mental toughness required, to starting footy as young as age 4 (with one player beginning at 21).

Players spoke about injuries such as broken feet, shoulder reconstructions and torn ACLs, reminding students just how demanding professional sport can be. They also shared their game day nutrition: carb loading with pasta, rice and garlic bread, then recovering with protein snacks and Gatorade.

The highlight was hearing how electric the atmosphere is when playing at Optus Stadium in front of fans and family. The session wrapped up with plenty of laughs, including a cheeky joke about the Eagles winning 6 or 7 games. A fantastic experience for our students.

Worm Farm Visit
Today, the senior students visited the junior classroom to learn about their worm farm.
First, we partnered with some junior students, who taught us about the worms and how the worm farm works. Next, we made predictions about what we might find in the worm farm.
We then lined up at the door and went outside to observe the worms. After that, we carefully held some worms and soil in our hands so that we could examine them more closely. Finally, we returned the worms to their home, washed our hands, and went back to our classroom.
On the way back, some of us tasted the produce that has grown using the worm castings and worm juice.
It was interesting to see how the worm farm helps plants grow and supports our school garden.

This week, the wonderful teachers from the School of Isolated and Distance Education (SIDE) paid Leeman a visit. Students played some Maths games such as Step back (a multiplication game), Guess the Number and Order the Numbers. They also did an activity about adaptation using tongs as a bird beak and M&M's/skittles as food for the bird. The skittles were poison! Finally, students coloured a chameleon to camouflage it into an object or surface in the classroom. It was a great afternoon of fun and a good way to review some learning from the term

We are incredibly excited to share that today we were announced as a recipient of funding through the WA Government’s Supporting School Canteens Program. 🎉
This funding will provide valuable upgrades and new equipment for our canteen, and we can’t wait to share the improvements with our school community!

In Art, the Junior Class has been exploring the colour wheel, learning to identify primary and secondary colours, as well as warm and cool colour groups.

Students then used their knowledge to select warm and cool painted papers to design beautiful vases filled with flowers. Their artworks show a wonderful understanding of colour and creativity.

The Junior Class continues to predict, observe, collect data and maintain the worm tower. Last week there were food scraps still in the tower and the left side was quite wet. The worms were very abundant, wriggly and healthy.

So, we decided to put some shredded newspaper in to soak up some water and cut out a cardboard piece to put in the lid to help keep the water out (it comes down through the air holes in the lid when it rains and it has rained a lot lately!).

Because we mixed up the food scraps when putting newspaper scraps below, we decided not to feed the worms any scraps. We predicted that our worms would eat the leftover scraps and newspaper. We're pretty sure they won’t die because there is still a lot of food for them to eat.

We continue our learning of Biological Sciences in our description of the lifecycle of plant and drawing their external features using the plants that we planted in our garden beds.
