Over Term 3 and 4 we have been learning a lot about tadpoles, frogs and their lifecycle. We have been fortunate enough to watch the lifecycle from the very beginning as frog spawn and implement an in-depth, rich program documenting every part of their morphing stages.

Our children have led the way with compassion, empathy and care as we continue to support the incredible efforts of the Blue Mountains Wombat Conservation group. A comment about sick wombats sparked months of ongoing learning- children resourcefully saving lids at home for the medicine, investigating and pondering about mange disease, asking questions, thinking deeply and discussing during yarn up. Sally and Melina from the conservation group visited us at preschool and shared more knowledge and learning with us. Children drew and creatively designed the burrow flaps that are now in Megalong Valley. Children thought of a whole list of wombat names that are now being used to identify sick wombats that will hopefully become healthy robust wombats again very soon.

Yesterday children, families and educators met at The Joan to attend a lively performance of ‘Alphabetical Sydney’. A fun school holiday activity where families could get to know one another a little more and children could experience the magic of live theatre. A special moment for us meeting the author of the book and play, Hilary Bell with a signed copy to read back at preschool in Term 4. Thank you to Angela at The Joan for making it such a memorable occasion!

During the holidays, educators engaged in professional learning with Sally Piggott. Sally is an educational consultant on teaching a deeper playful understanding of children’s movement meditation. Some of the topics were breathing techniques, 4 step calming process, yoga meditation and the use of calm box. At the end of the session, educators reflected on their own intentions for 2023. Such a meaningful and peaceful way to start the year.🌈💕

A very Happy New Year to all our families and friends.

2022 was a busy and eventful year for us at Lawson Community Preschool. We enjoyed visits to Lawson Public School, OLN, Lawson Library, Lawson RFS, Fire and Rescue NSW and Ambulance NSW kindly visited us, we experienced six fantastic workshops with Erin from Yanmala Aboriginal Education and Wagana Aboriginal Dancer’s delighted us with two performances. It was also incredible having families share their skills such as cooking and music, and bringing family pets for us to meet. After a few years hiatus, it was so fun all being together for our end of year party In December. Completing the year with songs and gingerbread for our elderly neighbours is always a special time. This year we had a repertoire of ten songs! 😅

We thought it would be a good opportunity to share some of the highlights before the new and exciting term begins. Enjoy the pictures!
