Bushfire damaged asbestos warning!
Bushfire damaged asbestos warning!
Homes built or renovated before 1990 are likely to contain asbestos in floor tiles, fibro walls and ceilings, and corrugated roofing.
Fires can cause asbestos to crack and break, spreading fibres around the area. If fire debris is left undisturbed, the health risk from airborne asbestos fibres is low.
If you are returning to a fire-damaged home and there’s a chance there could be asbestos in the debris, keep it wet and try not to disturb or further break it until it can be cleaned up by a licensed asbestos removalist.
More information on handling fire damaged asbestos is at qld.gov.au/asbestos.
