Tasmanian Weather Watch

Good evening everyone! Hope you’ve all had a wonderful weekend.

Here are tonight’s temperatures, with fairly mild conditions expected for most of Tasmania as a warm northwesterly flow develops ahead of a weak cold front and a cut-off low currently over South Australia.

🌦️ A few showers are expected about the west and north tonight, with further showers continuing into Monday and Tuesday.

🌡️ Some very mild to warm temperatures are expected across eastern and southeastern Tasmania on Monday, with maximums generally reaching 17–19°C, including around 19°C for Hobart.

With sea surface temperature now upwards of 11 degrees above average in the Eastern Pacific Ocean this El Nino event is now the strongest in recorded history.

What's terrifying it's still strengthing and will continue to do so over the coming months.

It's true impacts on Tasmania and Australia won't be felt until at least mid spring if not earlier.

One to watch.

No significant snowfall is expected across Tasmania during the next seven days. With temperatures forecast to gradually warm over the coming weeks, the 2026 snow season is now essentially over.

There may still be the odd light dusting on the highest peaks, but any meaningful snowfall looks unlikely but you never know what September will bring.

Hey everyone, after the short n' sharp burst of cooler, wetter weather , models are showing the possibly of warm weather (high teens) returning to the eastern half of the state towards the end of next week. At the very end of next week, which is also the very end of the month, temperatures could get very close to breaking all time August records (19-20 degrees!). Although this is far away, all models are currently forecasting it. It is important to note however, that this could still change.

A high-pressure system will continue moving slowly east today, settling over the northern Tasman Sea by Sunday evening. As the high moves away, a northwesterly airflow will return ahead of a cold front expected to approach and cross Tasmania on Monday.

🌦️ Light showers about the west, otherwise generally fine through the morning.

🌧️ Isolated showers are expected to develop across parts of northern Tasmania during the afternoon and evening.

🌫️ Patchy morning fog and frost are possible across the north.

💨 Westerly winds will gradually tend northwesterly during the day.

🌡️ Temperatures will reach the mid-teens across most locations, climbing to around 17°C along parts of the East Coast.

Overall, it’s looking like a fairly settled mild Sunday for much of Tasmania

Winds may reach 30 knots, with particularly rough conditions along southern and western waters where swells of 4–5 metres are forecast.
