Birthday vibes.

Another birthday celebrated today!

Today we did acrylic painting . We haven't done much of this since I discovered paint sticks. Paint sticks are less messy, dry fast, easy to use and more precise on the paper.
It got me thinking is that a good thing?
Children love mess, colour, experimenting with the way acrylic spreads across the page. Colours mix seamlessly to make other colours. It's messy. Takes ages to dry especially when it's layered on thick. It gets everywhere. But children love it. They love the excitement of look I made green! They love the sensory experience and how it feels. Holding a paint brush fine-tunes and teaches fine motor skills.
Are we taking too much of the mess out of early childhood education? Something to ponder another day but for today the children embraced the paintbrush!
