🎶Great work from our students at Night 2 of the Launceston Competitions Contemporary Music section.🎶

Six groups performed across the night, including acoustic, college bands and an open band, all showing excellent musicianship in strong sections.

Special mention to Jellypocket placing 3rd out of 15 bands in the College section, and Keystone placing 2nd in the Open section.
A great follow up to an already strong first night.👏🎸🎤

⚽ Futsal Tournament Action!

Our college Futsal team recently headed to the Elphin Sports Centre to take on some tough opposition in a highly competitive tournament.

The standard of play was strong across the board, with every match testing the team’s skill, resilience, and teamwork. Over the course of the competition, the team battled hard to secure a mix of results, finishing with a win, losses, and a hard-fought draw.

Each game provided valuable experience and highlighted the determination and sportsmanship of the squad against quality opponents.👏

🎶 Fantastic Results at the Launceston Competitions 🎶

Our students took to the stage last night for the first of two evenings in the Contemporary Music section of the Launceston Competitions — and what a night it was!

Across three sections, our students achieved outstanding results:

🎤 18 Years and Under – Self Accompanied Vocal
👏 Abbey – Highly Commended
🥉 Ava Ogden – 3rd place
🥇 Alex – 1st place

🎙️ Open Contemporary Vocal – Amplified Solo
🥇 Peyton – 1st place

We also had fantastic performances from Gabe Schreuder and Ebony Pugh in extremely high-quality sections.

A big thank you to Jason Whatley, Newstead College’s piano tutor, for accompanying Peyton on keys.

It was a fantastic night for our Music department, and we are excited to carry that momentum into tonight’s performances, featuring our acoustic group along with five Newstead College bands taking the stage! 🎸

Tonight’s Band Section:

📍Launceston Conference Centre
⏰ Starts at 5:00pm
🎟️ Entry: Adults $10 | Under 18's $5

🎶 Newstead College bands will perform in the final two sections of the evening - Good luck to all performers tonight! 👏

Introducing AusAlert

The Australian Government is launching AusAlert, a new national warning system that can send emergency messages to compatible mobile devices in times of disaster.

AusAlert will be ready to use in October 2026,
but before it launches, we need to test the system in selected communities across Australia.

At around 11:00 am on Monday 15 June 2026, your mobile devices, such as mobile phones, tablets and smart watches, may receive a test alert. The notification will vibrate and include a loud siren-like sound that lasts about 10 seconds.

The AusAlert test in your area is a Priority Alert. If receiving it could disrupt you or cause you or someone you know to feel unsafe, visit the AusAlert website at ausalert.gov.au to find out how to turn a Priority Alert off on your device.

Great start to our Game On program with our General Maths 2 and Personal Maths 2 classes!
Session 1 with Warren and Lisa from City Mission had students exploring the world of gaming and gambling, building awareness of how these systems work and how they can influence decision-making.
Students were engaged and thoughtful throughout, asking great questions and beginning to connect these ideas to real-life situations. We’re looking forward to Sessions 2 and 3 as we dive deeper into smart money choices and the real costs involved! 💰

🌳 Environmental Science in Action 🌳

Our Environmental Science students recently took part in an engaging classroom session with Darcy from the Forest Education Foundation, exploring Tasmania’s three major forest types, regeneration cycles, food webs, and vegetation mapping.

This hands-on learning experience helped prepare students for their upcoming Cluan Tiers Forest field trip, where they’ll see these concepts come to life in a real-world environment.
