✨ What a wonderful evening at the Newstead College Ball! ✨

It was fantastic to see the effort our students put into dressing classy and stylish for the occasion and to experience such a positive atmosphere throughout the evening. The Ball was very well attended, the food was excellent, and the photo booth was a big hit with many of our students!

A special thank you to Vince for organising the three fantastic bands ‘Grass’, ‘Jellypocket’ and ‘Keystone’. Their music created an incredible atmosphere and kept the dance floor busy all night! 🎶💃🕺

Thank you to everyone who helped make the evening such a memorable experience for our students. The Ball was a wonderful way to finish the term and celebrate our Newstead College community. 💙💚

The Pathways to Work class would like to thank the Newstead College community for generously supporting their second Op Shop last week, when the library once again transformed into a bargain-hunter's paradise. Books and bargains – what a brilliant combination! We are extremely grateful for all the fabulous donations that make this learning experience possible.

🎭 We are thrilled to announce our major production for 2027:
9 to 5: The Musical! 🎭

Based on the iconic 1980 film, 9 to 5: The Musical features music and lyrics by Dolly Parton and a book by Patricia Resnick. Set in the late 1970s, this hilarious and heartwarming story follows three unlikely friends who take charge of their workplace and discover that together, there's nothing they can't achieve. Filled with laughter, friendship, romance, and a touch of revenge, this high-energy musical is a celebration of courage, determination, and standing up for what's right.

Whether your passion is performing under the spotlight or bringing the magic to life behind the scenes, there’s a place for you!

⭐ Enrol in Musical Theatre to be part of the action on stage.
🎬 Enrol in Technical Theatre Production to help create the show behind the scenes.

🎶 What a fantastic weekend of live music!

Last Saturday at Youngtion, part of the Junction Arts Festival in Prince’s Square. Ava and Keystone were invited to perform 25-minute sets as part of a real music festival experience, complete with professional sound and lighting crews.

This is where our students truly shone. Without the pressure of competition, they were able to focus entirely on performing, connecting with the audience and enjoying the experience. They represented Newstead College exceptionally well, and I had several audience members comment on how impressive they were and how proud I must be of them.

Opportunities like this are incredibly valuable. They put young musicians in front of audiences, industry professionals, promoters and event organisers—and one opportunity can often lead to another. The more people who see our students perform, the more doors can begin to open for future gigs and musical opportunities.

🎤 Alex also performed a solo set at the Junction Arts Festival on Sunday at the Fountain Stage. Congratulations to Alex on securing the gig! It’s fantastic to see his ongoing commitment to music creating professional opportunities as he continues to build experience performing at venues and events around Tasmania.

A huge congratulations to all of the students involved.

⚖️ Legal Studies Students Attend LawFest

Our Legal Studies students swapped the classroom for a day at LawFest at University of Tasmania in Hobart, exploring the world of law and hearing from leading legal experts.

A highlight was hearing from Tasmanian-born His Honour Justice Robert Beech-Jones of the High Court of Australia, who shared insights into the Australian legal system.

Students also took part in panel discussions on the future of the international legal order, before watching demonstration moots and seeing law students argue a case in a mock trial.

It was a long day, but a fantastic opportunity to explore legal issues, future study pathways and careers in law. ⚖️📚
