I take great pride and satisfaction from being as historically and factually accurate as I can be. Unfortunately the same cannot be said about others. According to the Tasmanian Aboriginal Centre (TAC) it was September 26th 1826 when two Aboriginal men, Dick and Jack, were executed in Hobart and they held events to highlight, and commemorate, the injustice of that. Which it clearly was.

However, the TAC got the date wrong. Dick and Jack were hanged, along with 5 others, on Wednesday 13th September and that was reported in the Colonial Times and Tasmanian Advertiser on Friday, September 15th 1826. Historical accuracy certainly isn't one of the TAC's 'strengths'. They get so much wrong it isn't funny.

Who does the ABC Radio Mornings program get when they want a real and experienced historian to be part of their broadcast? Me! My passion for, and knowledge of, our wonderful city is second to none.

And, of course, my historical knowledge extends to Tasmanian/Australian First Nations histories and cultures, and Australian colonial/post colonial history. That makes me pretty unique in Australia! Of course, I'm always researching and learning more.

For over a decade I've been hosting my Tasmanian Aboriginal histories and cultures experiences in our iconic Cataract Gorge and it has been very successful!

I'm now going to expand into other areas such as the Bay of Fires and Alum Cliffs as they have such rich Tasmanian Aboriginal connections with amazing stories to tell at incredible locations.

Stay tuned for more information to come 😁

Milton Hall is one of the most historically significant buildings in Launceston and was originally built as a church in 1842 for the Reverend John West. West was an ardent campaigner against the transportation of convicts and formed what became the Australasian League. As part of their campaign they created what is basically the very first Australian flag.

After a few years of being unused it is now wonderful to see Milton Hall come back to life as an antique shop, Antiques at Milton Hall. It's operated by Brett Rainbird and Jacki Kennedy, and a wonderful addition to my tours where my guests not only get to see inside the building but also have the opportunity to find some great antique mementos of their visit to Launceston.

What a wonderful couple of days I had with the kids at Youngtown Primary School last week...and Youngtown is also where I went to school! We did heaps of activities and along the way they also learned a lot about Tasmanian Aboriginal peoples and cultures. It was the perfect end of term for them!

I had a great day hosting a lovely group of people on my tours and experiences of Launceston, and our Cataract Gorge. Among them was Brett who is a travel writer from New Zealand and he was amazed at the depth of experiences, and knowledge, I could provide to him over the course of a day. When you have a passion for what you do and where it makes a huge difference to the experiences people have, and I don't charge exorbitant fees either.
