The annual VCOP random acts of kindness Christmas letter exchange for 2026 is closing soon for enrolments!
For those who don’t know what the RAKs Letter Exchange is, we open a registration form every year for all teachers to register for their classes.
I then collate the groups into approximately 24 so you can count down to Christmas or the last day of term.
Every class is assigned a number from 1-24, a blank advent colouring-in decoration, and a RAK (random act of kindness). Your class then writes a letter to each school in their group, decorates an advent piece, and attaches the RAK to the back.
Classes then post off their 23 envelopes, each containing a class letter, a decorated advent piece, and a RAK to complete by the first week of November.
Excitement fills the air when letters start arriving. Each day, your class opens a letter and completes a RAK
Last year, we completed over 40,000 RAKS across Australia and NZ in Term 4!

Due to requests, we are opening the Acts of Kindness Letter Exchange early for 2026 to allow more classes to participate.
Registrations open now until groups are full
If you haven't been involved in the letter exchange before, here is a little info.
Your class is assigned a group of 24.
You are emailed a class act of kindness to share and an class advent tag with assigned number.
Then, each student in your class writes a letter to another class on your list. They decorate a copy of your class advent tag and an act of kindness tag.
Their letter, advent tag and kindness tag is then posted to the class they wrote to.
You will post 23 letters and receive 23 in return from schools all over Australia. You can decide if you write more than this, but usually, we only write the one letter and have fun looking up all the different schools on your list to see where our letters are going and coming from.

NEW RESOURCE YOU DON'T WANT TO MISS
Students learn that subordinating connectives are the "glue" that joins a dependent clause to an independent clause, helping writers explain when, why, how, where, or under what conditions something happens. As students expand their repertoire of connectives, they begin to create longer, more detailed sentences that improve sentence flow, strengthen their voice, and add depth to their writing.
Help your students move beyond simple sentences and develop more sophisticated, fluent writing with this Subordinating Connectives Mat & Explainer Pack.
Designed to support whole-school writing development, this resource introduces subordinating connectives in a carefully sequenced progression, allowing students to build confidence with simple sentence structures before experimenting with more mature and sophisticated writing choices.

Free Download - Flip It Challenge Cards
Designed to support the Openers and Connectives elements of VCOP, these quick challenges encourage students to manipulate sentence structure by moving the dependent clause to the beginning of the sentence. As they "flip" sentences, students learn how authors vary sentence patterns, create more engaging openers, and improve the flow of their writing.
