Come and drum yourself happy with Benjie from Earthen Rhythms for an uplifting afternoon of rhythm, connection and creative expression in our Backyard Garden.
This welcoming 3-hour drumming experience is all about letting go, having fun and experiencing the joy of making music together. No musical or drumming experience is needed — just come as you are and enjoy a supportive, judgement-free space.
The afternoon will begin with a 1.5-hour guided DRUM WORKSHOP, where Benjie will introduce you to the rhythms, techniques and energy of group drumming. We’ll then take a break to enjoy afternoon tea and light refreshments from The Hemporium Cafe, before coming back together for a 1-hour freeform DRUM CIRCLE — a chance to relax into the rhythm, express yourself and experience the magic of creating sound together as a group.

Meet Benjie: Rhythm Master & Joy Maker
With over 28 years of training alongside legendary African masters, Benjie is a powerhouse teacher, performer, and rhythm facilitator who brings the vibrant soul of West African drumming to life. Based in Newcastle, NSW, he channels his high-energy passion into teaching up to 8,000 students each year through his dynamic troupe, Earthen Rhythms.
His uplifting style masterfully interweaves traditional rhythms with clever rhythm games, creating an inclusive environment designed to spark pure freedom of expression, connection, and fun.
Driven by a passion to empower communities, Benjie is one of only 30 Certified Global Trainers for Village Music Circles International and a certified Rhythm2Recovery Facilitator. From major festivals and corporate events to specialised inclusive rhythm programs for NDIS groups, his mission is simple: to use the universal language of the drum to boost mental health, connect individuals, and quite literally drum you happy!
