It’s Wednesday again, which means it’s Hump Day.

What’s the plan for this weekend?

Going for a solo or group ride?

Remember to prepare the bike and prepare yourself too.

Make sure you’re hydrated, the bike is road worthy - tyres are in good condition and pressures are correct, electrical is all functional, brakes are very important- make sure both front and rear brakes operate correctly and they also operate the brake light.
Mirrors - you need to have two mirrors fitted.

Now, here’s a new mention for you - does your throttle operate correctly? Does the spring return function as it should?

It’s the start of a new week, we’re approaching spring and the weather forecasts are for a dry timeframe.

If you’re riding make sure your skills are developing along with your more frequent riding.

Group rides become more frequent so develop your hand signals based on common motorcyclist gestures.

Make that not only you are well prepared, make sure your bike is too.

Give it a good visual check, tyres, oil - any leaks? Electrical- is everything operating as it should be?

How’s the bikes registration?

As a motorcyclist you need to maintain and develop your rider skills.

Well it’s Wednesday, that means it’s hump day. We’re on the way to the weekend!

Now, today’s focus is on the rider being attentive.

I’d like to introduce you to the concept of “SURPRISE”

As a rider you should never be surprised, meaning you need to anticipate bad driver decisions, poor road surfaces, debris on the road, potholes, driveways, crests, pedestrians, dogs, fauna, sunrise and sunset.

All of these and many more create situations riders need to anticipate and prepare for, control of the motorcycle so you can avoid sudden braking or manoeuvres.

Rider actions need to be planned and controlled.

No Surprises, Anticipate, Prepare, Avoid.

Out and about, maintain your awareness of your surroundings.

Think ahead by recognising driver deficiencies! Pre-Empt their poor decisions, be ready!

It’s Wednesday again so that means it’s “Hump Day” as we head towards the weekend our thoughts wander to our ride route, catching up with ride mates etc.

So, I’m the lead up to the weekend we need to take a look at the motorcycle for anything needing attention.

Check your tyre pressures, cold weather reduces tyre pressure!
Check your tyres when they’re cold, that’s how you achieve correct warm tyre pressures.

Check your tyres for any debris as this could mean you have a puncture. While you’re there also look at the tyre condition, tread, age of your tyre if you don’t know how old they are, 5 years is the age limitation, they become hard and offer less grip, we need grip!

Also perform a general check on your chain and sprockets, clean and lubricate.

Check your brake light works on both brake levers, indicators, headlight.

When did you last check your oil ?

These are the basics we need to perform for our safety, we don’t want to be stranded on the side of the road or worse.

It’s Wednesday which means it’s hump day!

The weather continues to be a little sketchy so it’s important that riders are riding smoothly!

How do you do this?

Look well ahead, prepare early, smooth throttle and brake applications, posture- remain flexible from your waist up, soft hands on the bars, knees firm against the tank.

Maintain your safe space (Buffer) on the road and control drivers around you by selecting your lane positioning based on traffic conditions.

Remember to book your Road Craft sessions by going to www.shinysideuptraining.com.au for your rider training needs.

It’s Wednesday, that means it’s hump day.

Planning a ride this weekend remember to complete your bike check, lights, indicators, brake light, chain condition, tyres for tread - pressure - any damage etc.

Prepare yourself too, hydrate, eat well for the physicality of the ride.

Learners and Provisional license holders remember laws have change, you already need to be wearing gloves, PPE vest etc. if you’re unaware of these changes you better look up whats required!

It’s Monday again, how’d your weekend go?

Weathers continuing to be a little sketchy so remember to be aware of the road surface, it’ll be slippery in places.

Stay away from the middle of the lane, that’s where the oils and debris accumulate !

Don’t forget to recognise other motorcyclists, no matter what they’re riding they are riding is the point!

Stay safe out there, think ahead, prepare early, maintain your safe - Buffer Space around you.

Control driver behaviour, you can control the driver behind you by using your brake light early, when you know you’ll be braking to a stop use your rear brake first, this alerts drivers behind you and they start braking drivers behind them see brake lights too.

One of the most common accidents causing injury is a rear end accident, cars running into a motorcyclist.

Be aware, Be ready, if you sense the vehicle behind you is a distracted driver move away from them even if it means stopping on the roadside to let them past!

As riders let’s get onboard acknowledging each other on the road.
