Celebrating Speech Pathology Week!

This year’s theme, “Communication creates possibility”, highlights the important role Speech-Language Pathologists (SLPs) play in helping students access learning, build social connections and thrive at school.

🌟 STUDENT SPOTLIGHT 🌟

Congratulations to Xyleigh and Nate, who recently represented our region as referees at the Touch Football State Championships.

Nate refereed at the 13–15 Years State Championships in Brisbane, while Xyleigh refereed at the 10–12 Years State Championships in Bundaberg.

Both students had the opportunity to be mentored by experienced Touch Football Queensland referees, helping them further develop their skills, confidence and experience.

Well done, Xyleigh and Nate! It’s great to see our students exploring the many opportunities available in sport beyond playing.

Kokoda Challenge Completion Certificates

Congratulations to our OTRT Laidley Kokoda students who recently received their completion certificates for taking on the incredible 48km Gold Coast Kokoda Challenge!

Completing 48km is an amazing achievement and a true demonstration of determination, perseverance and teamwork.

Well done to everyone involved – an achievement to be proud of!

ASPIRE Parade

Last week, we celebrated the achievements of our students at our ASPIRE Parade, with Bronze, Silver and Gold certificates presented in recognition of their hard work, progress and commitment to learning.

These achievements reflect our school’s ASPIRE values – Ambition, Self Belief, Perseverance, Integrity, Respect and Empathy – encouraging our students to set goals, believe in themselves, persevere through challenges and strive to achieve their best.

During Bullying No Way Week (17–21 August), we’re asking students, families, and communities to take action. Small actions, like including someone, speaking up, or showing kindness can make a difference and can help effect change. Actions don’t need to be big to change someone’s world.

Emerge: Women in Sport

Last week, some of our Laidley High students had the fantastic opportunity to attend the Emerge: Women in Sport event at Brighton Homes Arena, home of the Brisbane Lions AFLW team.

Joined by students from Faith Lutheran College Plainland and St Peters Springfield, students participated in an AFL skills session and heard from inspiring guest speakers, including Professor Lauren Ball from The University of Queensland, who spoke about the important role nutrition plays in achieving peak performance.

A highlight of the day was also the opportunity to meet Australian sprint sensation Gout Gout, who happened to be training at the venue!

A fantastic experience inspiring the next generation of women in sport. 🩵🩶

PBL Focus: Report Inappropriate Behaviour

Our PBL focus for this fortnight is Be Safe – Report Inappropriate Behaviour.

At Laidley High, everyone has a role to play in creating a safe, respectful and supportive school environment. If you see or experience behaviour that is unsafe, disrespectful or inappropriate, it is important to speak up and report it to a staff member.

Reporting inappropriate behaviour helps our staff respond quickly, provide support and ensure everyone feels safe and respected at school.

By speaking up when something isn't right, you are demonstrating responsibility, looking out for others and helping to make Laidley High a safer place for everyone.

Let's all work together to Be Safe – Report Inappropriate Behaviour.
