BJJ revolves around the concept that a smaller, weaker person can successfully defend themselves against a bigger, stronger, heavier opponent by using leverage and weight distribution, taking the fight to the ground and using a number of holds and submissions to defeat them. At Phronesis Jiu Jitsu we cater for kids and adults with classes running 6 days per week.

We had a great turnout for our latest grading.
For some, it was their very first grading. For others, it was another step forward on a journey years in the making.
Every belt earned represents hours of hard work, resilience and growth.

It was great to celebrate together - we hope you enjoyed the coffee and cupcakes 🧁

Thank you to everyone for your continued support and patience throughout our renovations. Every improvement we’re making is with one goal in mind - to create an academy our students are proud to call home.

Our Mid Year Grading will be held on Saturday 1 August starting at 10:00am.

Tots, Kids & Teens will grade first followed by the adults.

We ask that all students attend even if you think you won’t grade.
Being there to support your teammates is an important part of what makes our academy special 🫶🏻

🤝Every class ends the same way🤝

We bow, then shake every person’s hand before we leave the mats.

Jiu jitsu isn’t like a regular gym session where everyone does their own thing.
You don’t get better without your training partners. Every drill and every roll relies on someone else giving you their time, their body and their effort so you can improve.

That’s why we finish class this way.

It’s a sign of respect and appreciation for the people who’ve helped you learn.

Over the weekend stepped back onto the competition mats at

At 50, Chimpy is still stepping onto the mats to test himself. We believe the learning never stops, no matter what belt you wear.

👉5 competitors
👉100% podium success

A small team of just 5 athletes stepped onto the mats yesterday and came home with:
🥇 4 Gold
🥈 2 Silver
🥉 1 Bronze

To top it off, our Coach led from the front, taking home gold himself.
A reminder that great coaches don’t just teach, they continue to test themselves.

To everyone who competed, we’re incredibly proud of your effort, discipline and willingness to represent the academy. And to every student who helped prepare them - thank you 🙏🏼

We had a tough day, some great performances but always big hearted efforts as always.

🔨 Transformation galore this long weekend!

While most people were enjoying the extra day off, we were busy building the future home of Phronesis Jiu Jitsu Academy.

🤜🏼🤛🏼A huge thank you to our members who gave up their long weekend to lend a hand. You could’ve been anywhere else, but you chose to spend your time helping build something special for our team and community. We genuinely appreciate every hour, every helping hand and every bit of support 🥰
