Science Week: Days 3, 4 & 5! 🧪🧫
Our Science Week adventures continued with even more exciting hands-on learning! The children embraced their inner scientists as they explored, predicted, experimented, created and discovered through a wonderful range of experiences. 🔍✨
🌈 Walking Rainbow
Children watched coloured water travel along paper towels and mix to create new colours.
🌧️ Rain Cloud in a Jar
We explored how clouds become heavy with water and release rain, while learning new weather vocabulary.
🫧 Slime Making
Measuring, pouring, mixing and observing changes supported early maths, science and sensory learning.
🎈 Exploding Balloons
Children predicted and observed how mixing ingredients could create gas and inflate or pop a balloon.
⚖️ Sink and Float
Our nursery children explored water and noticed what happened when different objects were placed into the tub.
🌱 Planting Grass Seeds
Children discovered what plants need to grow—soil, water, sunlight and care—while developing responsibility and appreciation for living things.
💥 Coke Explosion
A very exciting experiment that encouraged children to observe bubbles of carbon dioxide being rapidly released and discuss cause and effect.
🌋 Volcano Experiment
Children made predictions, watched the volcano erupt and shared their observations using early scientific language.
🍿 Making Popcorn
We observed how heat changes kernels as they pop, engaging children’s senses and curiosity through a meaningful cooking experience.
🥚🥄 Egg and Spoon Race
Children practised balance, coordination, concentration and persistence as they carefully made their way to the finish line.
🌈 Rainbow Pasta
Sorting, mixing and manipulating colourful pasta encouraged sensory exploration, creativity and fine-motor development.
🍡 Marshmallow Slime
Stretching, squeezing and moulding supported children to explore texture, change and cause and effect.
👾 Exploding Monsters
Children made predictions and watched what happened when ingredients were mixed together, supporting creativity and scientific investigation.
🌹 Nature Exploration with Playdough
Using rose petals and playdough, children touched, smelled, pressed and created with natural materials.
These experiences supported children’s curiosity, scientific vocabulary, creativity, sensory awareness, problem-solving and confidence to investigate the world around them.
Our learning linked to the EYLF Outcome 4: Children are confident and involved learners, as children explored, experimented, investigated and made discoveries through play. Planting grass seeds and nature play also connected with Outcome 2: Children are connected with and contribute to their world, while our egg-and-spoon race supported Outcome 3: Children have a strong sense of wellbeing.
