Our highly experienced engineering staff are always busy working in the hangar keeping a fleet of 20+ helicopters operational throughout the year. As a student with the Australian Helicopter Academy you’ll be involved in the daily activities and learn about your helicopter intricately. Something we believe is very important to every student. LIFESTYLE WHILE TRAINING IN THE KIMBERLEY

While training in Kununurra you’ll be subject to a rugged yet beautiful landscape. On your days off feel free to explore the many waterfalls, gorges and attractions which are right on our doorstep. El Questro station is only a short drive away which wows tourists from all over Australia and the world with the stunning scenery, waterfalls and nightlife. Lake Argyle and the Ord River are close by. Lake Kununurra which holds a consistent level of water year round, is popular for water skiing, wake boarding, stand up paddle boarding, kayaking and fishing! Downstream of the dam wall there is no swimming due to saltwater crocodiles. But fishing for the elusive barramundi proves to be a popular past time for many locals and tourists hoping to crack into the meter club! Kununurra has a mixed population which caters for all age groups and families. The local sporting teams, leisure centre and hotels always welcoming a new face and making you feel at home. AHA will select the most dedicated and promising CPL candidates from our Academy and offer employment as a commercial pilot within our large sister company, HeliSpirit. We have an extremely busy scenic tour season which will give you those valuable log book hours and experience, and that jump start into the business. Our instructors also have many contacts within the helicopter industry to help you pursue other employment opportunities.

A huge congratulations to our newest graduate, Stellar!

Originally from South Australia, her aviation journey began in the Whitsundays while working ground crew and helping organise scenic flights over the Great Barrier Reef - the moment her passion for helicopters truly took off.

Before joining AHA to pursue her Commercial Helicopter Licence, Stellar spent two years with HeliSpirit at Mitchell Falls and living in Kununurra, gaining invaluable experience in remote operations.
From day one in the academy to earning her commercial licence, Stella has shown dedication, resilience and a genuine love for aviation. We can’t wait to see where her career takes her next. 🚁

2024 Graduate: Jamie Brander

After completing his training with Australian Helicopter Academy, Jamie headed straight into a season flying over the breathtaking Purnululu National Park, operating from both HeliSpirit’s Bungle Bungle and Warmun bases. While in Warmun, he even took time to inspire the next generation, giving the Ngalangangpum School students a close‑up look at the R44 and sharing his aviation journey.

So where is Jamie now? He’s continuing to build his career and flight hours at HeliSpirit’s Esperance Base, taking guests on breathtaking scenic flights and heli-adventures. From beach landings to flying over the beautiful Esperance landscape.

We’re proud to see Jamie thriving, and we can’t wait to watch where his career takes him next.
