In Two Way Science this week, we made 2 types of soap 🧼
Firstly, we gathered some Soap Wattle and explored how it could be rubbed together in our hands with water to make a bubbly, soapy consistency.
Next, using our Soap Making kit from Deadly Science, we made our own bush infused soap.
We gathered some lovely smelling leaves and flowers and crushed them up using a mortar and pestle.
We then melted beeswax and a soap base, watching it turn from a solid to a liquid, before adding our crushed leaves and letting it infuse for about 2 minutes on low heat. The students predicted that the mixture might turn green as it infused together, and they were right!
After the soap was infused, we poured the soap into moulds and left for 24 hours in the fridge to set. We could observe that the mixture quickly turned back into a solid, and even changed colours slightly.
The students were eager to test their soaps this morning, which produced lots of bubbles and clean, lovely smelling hands. 🌸🫧

On Friday, the students from Wyndham DHS came to teach our students about Dingoes. We learnt that Dingoes live across the Kimberley and Pilbara, and that they are an essential apex predator in our ecosystem. We completed a scavenger hunt to look for Dingo pictures and made dingo masks.
Here are some more facts we learnt…

“When they go hunting they sometimes eat insects. When it’s dry season they look for water.”- Madi

“If they don’t catch any meat, they eat insects. They also have super good hearing and can swim!” - Ellekyirah

“When some animals die they come to eat them. That’s called a scavenger.” - Faith

“They eat dead animals when they see them. I’ve seen a Dingo do that before near Doon Doon.” - Olivia

Thanks so much to the teachers and students at WDHS. We can’t wait to learn more from you this Friday!
