On Wednesday, we celebrated Thank a First Responder Day with a truly memorable experience for our students.
We were incredibly fortunate to be part of the Westpac School Landings Program, which saw the Westpac Rescue Helicopter land right on our school oval in the morning. There was plenty of excitement as students gathered on the tennis court to watch the helicopter touch down before having the opportunity to meet the crew and take an up close look at the helicopter and all the equipment inside. Students learned about the important roles each crew member plays, the capabilities of the helicopter, and the vital service it provides to communities across our region. We then waved goodbye as the crew departed and the helicopter took off on its journey back to base.
To finish our day, we welcomed members of the Kootingal/Moonbi RFS Brigade, who visited with two fire trucks. Students learned about fire safety, the importance of smoke alarms, and the specialised equipment carried on the trucks. They enjoyed exploring the vehicles, asking questions, and even having a turn spraying the hoses.
Experiences like these provide valuable learning opportunities and help our students gain a greater appreciation for the people who dedicate their lives to helping others.
A special thank you to the Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service and the Kootingal Rural Fire Service for taking the time out of your busy schedules to visit our school. We know that every day you are ready to respond when our communities need you most, so we are incredibly grateful that you chose to spend part of your day with our students. Your willingness to share your knowledge, answer countless questions, demonstrate your equipment, and give our students a firsthand look at the important work you do made this a truly unforgettable experience.
The excitement, curiosity and smiles seen throughout the day were a testament to the impact your visit had on our students. Not only did they learn about emergency services and safety, but they also gained a deeper understanding of the dedication, teamwork and care that goes into serving our community.
Thank you to all first responders who work tirelessly, often behind the scenes, to keep our communities safe. We are fortunate to have such passionate and committed people serving our region, and we are grateful for everything you do.
