So this happened...a Southern Cross Regional event Woodie Flowers Award for Embers' mentor Karen! No, that's not Karen in the pic....but a very surprised stand-in to collect the prestigious blue banner.
Everyone is still in a state of shock, none more than the humble mentor herself. It is a well deserved award for Karen's tireless presence to encourage and nurture so many young people to access FIRST robotics and learn what they're capable of.

It was an absolute pleasure to attend this event and show off the robot. Thanks Port Kembla Youth Project for having us!

On Tuesday the 7th of November, Year 6 students from Port Kembla Public School came along to PK Leap, our transition to high school event held at Port Kembla Youth Project! PKYP partnered with stakeholders MCCI Multicultural Communities, GambleAware NSW, headspace Wollongong, Illawarra Women's Health Centre, Embers Robotics, Drum Mama African Drumming and Lake Illawarra Police District, to run workshops and activities that help young people learn skills to cope with the big change of going to high school!
It was a fun and exciting day, which couldn’t have been possible without the amazing help from our staff, stakeholders, teachers and volunteers, thank you!

Everyone had a great first session at the on Monday building a robot each to give "Eaglet" a ride. Next session we will look at programming.
