🧬🔬 VCE BIOLOGY: SCIENCE IN ACTION!

A big advantage of our collaboration with KIOSC is that students are exposed to advanced technologies and techniques, while being immersed in the scientific and engineering problem-solving process.

This was very much in evidence during our Unit 4 Biology excursion, where students used real data from the Duke Lemur Centre to identify different lemur species using a range of scientific techniques.

Conservation of species on our fragile planet is just one of the areas where our science students explore sustainable solutions to complex and “wicked” problems.

Our KIOSC workshop leader was very impressed with our students’ technical skills and incredible attention to detail. From accurately measuring two-millionths of a litre to sustaining focus and applying methods carefully and systematically, our students are developing valuable skills and dispositions that will serve them well beyond the classroom, in further study and future careers.

We are incredibly proud of the way our VCE Biology students embraced this opportunity to learn, investigate and apply their knowledge in an authentic scientific setting.

Our VCE Art students recently enjoyed an inspiring day exploring some of Melbourne’s leading art galleries.

The day began at NGV International, where students explored the galleries, experiencing a diverse collection of artworks spanning historical masterpieces through to contemporary works. They also had some fun interacting with the Children’s Gallery exhibit.

In the afternoon, students visited ACCA (Australian Centre for Contemporary Art) to view a thought-provoking exhibition exploring the theme of loneliness. As part of a guided tour, students unpacked the artworks and gained valuable insight into the curatorial decisions behind the exhibition, with discussions focusing on the use of lighting, space and the gallery environment to enhance meaning and audience experience.

Experiences like these provide our students with authentic opportunities to deepen their understanding of art-making, exhibition design and the many ways artists communicate ideas through visual language.

🌟 Leadership Excursion a Great Success 🌟

Our student leaders recently enjoyed a fantastic Leadership Excursion, providing them with the opportunity to strengthen their leadership skills, build relationships and work collaboratively towards an exciting school initiative.

The day began with a productive planning session for our upcoming Diversity Week. Students shared ideas, developed activities and explored ways to celebrate and promote the rich diversity within our school community. Their enthusiasm, creativity and commitment were inspiring, and we can't wait to see their ideas come to life.

Following the planning session, students headed to Hijinx Hotel and QV Melbourne for a series of interactive challenges and team-based activities. These experiences encouraged communication, problem-solving, resilience and teamwork, while also giving students the opportunity to connect and have fun together.

The excursion was a wonderful balance of planning, leadership development and team building. We are incredibly proud of our student leaders and look forward to seeing the positive impact of their work during Diversity Week and throughout the remainder of the year.

Year 8 Circus Crew

On Tuesday 29 July, our Year 8 students had the exciting opportunity to take part in a circus skills workshop, where they stepped out of their comfort zones and tried a range of unique and entertaining activities with the folks from the Circus Crew.

Throughout the session, students rotated through four different circus disciplines: hula hooping, devil sticks, poi, and plate spinning. Guided by experienced instructors and surprisingly active teachers, they learnt the basics of each skill before challenging themselves to improve through practice and persistence.

The workshop was about much more than learning circus tricks. Students demonstrated excellent teamwork, encouraging one another as they tackled new challenges, celebrated successes, and learnt from their mistakes. The activities also highlighted the importance of perseverance, with many students discovering that determination and repeated practice led to impressive improvements by the end of the session.

It was fantastic to see so many students embracing the experience with enthusiasm, supporting their peers, and having plenty of fun along the way. The circus skills workshop was a memorable day that encouraged confidence, resilience, and collaboration, valuable skills that extend well beyond the classroom.
