🚔👮‍♀️ What an exciting morning our Ikara 3-Year-Old Kindergarten children had today!

We were so fortunate to welcome Charlie's mum - Constable Felicia and her colleague - Constable Daphne, who visited us to share all about the important role police officers play in our community. The children were fascinated and had so many thoughtful questions!

Constable Felicia brought along police uniforms and photos for the children to explore, and even organised a special police investigation. Our little detectives worked together to search for clues and evidence to help rescue a missing police horse. We're happy to report that the case was solved very quickly! 🐴🔍

The highlight of the morning was sitting inside a real police car and hearing the siren. The excitement and smiles were unforgettable! 🚓✨

To make the day even more special, each child received a police badge, colouring book, stickers and a fidget spinner to take home.

A big thank you to Constable Felicia and Constable Daphne for taking the time to visit our Ikara children and provide such a fun, engaging and memorable learning experience. We loved learning about the people who help keep our community safe! 💙

Small Seeds, Big Discoveries 🌱🔎

🌱 Our Ikara 3-Year-Old Kinder children explored the fascinating journey of growing chickpeas. They shared their predictions through drawings, imagining what their chickpea plants might grow into, before taking a closer look at the sprouts that had begun to emerge.

The children carefully replanted their sprouted chickpeas into pots and engaged in conversations about what plants need to grow. Through observation, discussion, and creative expression, they demonstrated curiosity, wonder, and an emerging understanding of how living things change over time.

It was wonderful to see the children making connections, asking questions, and expressing their ideas as they explored the life cycle of a plant. 🌿✨

🐝 Buzzing with excitement at BiraBira today! 🐝

Our Ikara and Warrigal Kinder children enjoyed a fascinating visit from Holly at Holly’s Backyard Bees, where they discovered the incredible world of honey bees through hands-on learning and exploration.

The children observed a real bee colony in an observation hive, learned about the bee life cycle, how honey is made, and the important role bees play in caring for our environment and food systems. They loved trying on the beekeeper suit, exploring beekeeping tools, tasting delicious honey, and sharing their wonderful questions and ideas.

The Warrigal 4-year-old kinders also enjoyed singing their favourite bee song and learning how to say "thank you" to the bees in AUSLAN, while the Ikara 3-year-old kinders connected their learning to recent experiences during International Bee Week.

It was a day filled with curiosity, discovery, and appreciation for these tiny but mighty pollinators. Thank you, Holly, for inspiring our young learners and helping us celebrate the amazing work of bees! 🍯🌼💛

Today, the children at Birabira proudly joined the nationwide celebration of National Simultaneous Storytime 2026 by sharing this year’s featured story, Luna Roo. Across each learning environment, children engaged in meaningful literacy experiences that promoted belonging, resilience, teamwork, perseverance, and self-belief. 📚🦘✨

Wangara Pre-Kinder children visited the Ikara 3-year-old room to join in the simultaneous storytime experience together. Using both visual and auditory mediums, children engaged with the story while sitting together as a large group on the mat. They listened attentively and remained actively involved throughout the experience, strengthening their sense of belonging, listening skills, and comprehension in a shared learning environment.

Following the story, Ikara 3-Year-Olds revisited the book through a creative drawing experience, choosing their favourite animals or characters to illustrate. They demonstrated imagination, confidence, and creativity while sharing ideas and conversations with peers and educators.

Warrigal 4-Year-Olds joined the nationwide event by watching the story on the CommBox and engaging deeply with themes of strength, emotions, movement, and perseverance. The story encouraged meaningful discussions about trying new things, learning through challenges, and never giving up. Afterward, children participated in a reflective drawing experience, creating thoughtful artworks inspired by movement, emotions, and characters from the story using their journal books.

National Reconciliation Week is a time for the Birabira ELC community to learn, reflect and grow together. We celebrate the histories, cultures and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and recognise the role we all play in advancing reconciliation.

🐝 World Bee Day was buzzing with creativity, curiosity, and learning across all our learning spaces this week! 💛

Our children explored the fascinating world of bees through hands-on experiences, art, music, stories, and group discussions tailored to each age group.

The Pyingerra Nursery children enjoyed sensory bee painting using yellow and black paint while listening to buzzing bee music, creating a fun and engaging atmosphere as educators introduced conversations about bees, the sounds they make, and where they live 🌼🎶

Our Talinga Toddlers created their own bumble bees using yellow paint, black stripes, and wings. This hands-on experience encouraged imagination, creativity, and fine motor development while introducing colours and patterns 🖌️🐝

Our Upper Talinga Pre-Kinder children celebrated through songs, rhymes, and creative experiences that supported language, listening skills, confidence, and belonging 🎶💛 Indoors, a small group created beautiful bees using pine cones and wool, carefully wrapping stripes around the cones to strengthen fine motor skills, concentration, creativity, and problem-solving 🧶🐝

In Ikara 3-Year-Old Kinder, the children explored bees, hives, shapes, and colours during group time before beginning Stage 1 of their hive-inspired art project. Using bubble wrap wrapped around hexagon shapes, the children printed hive patterns while experimenting with different shades of yellow, red, and brown 🎨✨

Meanwhile, the Warrigal 4-Year-Old Kinder children explored the bee life cycle and discussed the important role bees play in pollination, honey making, and helping flowers grow. The children shared thoughtful ideas about how bees collect nectar and work together in their hives 🍯🌸

It has been wonderful to see the children so engaged in exploring nature, creativity, and the important role bees play in our environment 🌍✨
