👮‍♀️🚓 Citizens of the World: Our Community Heroes! 🌏✨

As part of our Term 3 topic, Citizens of the World, we were so excited to welcome Sergeant Rob and Detective Anika to BiraBira on Tuesday, 29th September!

Representing the wonderful team at Moorabbin Police Station, Sergeant Rob and Detective Anika joined our Pre-Kinder and 4-year-old Kindergarten children to share an insight into the important work they do and how they help keep our community safe.

The children had the exciting opportunity to get up close to a real police car — sitting inside, exploring the different features, hearing the sirens and seeing the flashing lights! 🚓 They also had fun trying on some of the equipment police officers use, including hats and safety vests.

Through conversations and hands-on experiences, the children learned that police officers are there to help, protect and keep people safe, and that they can seek help from police officers when they need it. We also talked about 000, what to do in an emergency, and the different ways police can travel to help our community — from cars on the road, to boats on the water and helicopters in the sky to assist with searching for people. 🚁🚤

Our visit also gave us the opportunity to explore what it means to be a good citizen of our community. Together, we talked about kindness, caring for one another, helping others and the important role each of us can play in making our community a safe and welcoming place. 🌏

A huge thank you to Sergeant Rob and Detective Anika, and the team at Moorabbin Police Station, for taking the time to visit BiraBira, answer our many curious questions and give our children such a wonderful opportunity to connect their learning to the wider community.

Term 2: Belonging Exhibition

With the end of Term 3 and it's exhibition coming up in a few weeks, let's take a look at the children's Term 2: Belonging Exhibition.

“Where do I belong?” “Who do I belong with?” “What makes me feel connected?”

Throughout Term 2, our children explored the beautiful and deeply personal concept of Belonging—reflecting on the people, relationships, places and experiences that help shape who they are.

Inspired by the Reggio Emilia philosophy and the belief that children have “a hundred languages” through which they communicate their ideas, our children used art, storytelling, sensory experiences, construction and creative expression to make their thinking visible. 🎨✨

From Pyingerra nursery's collaborative canvas, where children explored colour, creativity and self-expression, to Talinga toddler’s family portraits, celebrating the important people in their lives; Upper Talinga and Wangara pre-kinder's clay family creations, exploring identity and diversity; and Ikara 3-year-old Kinder's family artworks and reflections on “What is the best part of my family?”—each project tells a unique story of connection and love. 💕

In Warrigal, the 4-year-old kindergarteners took their exploration even further, creating their own Belonging Boxes—little worlds representing the people, places and experiences that make them feel safe, connected and valued.

Across every room, we saw children sharing stories, asking questions, making choices, revisiting ideas, collaborating with others and proudly communicating what matters most to them.

Most importantly, this project reminded us that belonging looks different for every child. It is found in family, friendship, relationships, shared experiences, familiar places and the feeling of being truly seen and valued.

Our Term 2 Exhibition is a celebration of those connections. 🌿

Every child has a story.
Every family is unique.
Every perspective matters.
And every child belongs.

🎨✨ A BIG HURRAY for our community art piece!

It was so lovely seeing our BiraBira community come together and leave their own special mark on the canvas. From mums and dads to brothers, sisters, aunties and uncles — everyone was invited to get creative, and we absolutely loved seeing the canvas come to life! 🖌️💕

One of our favourite parts was hearing parents say things like, “I haven’t drawn in such a long time!” and sharing how nice it felt to simply slow down, be creative and enjoy making something again. 🥰

Because creativity isn't just for the children! 😉

A huge thank you to everyone who picked up a marker, added a splash of colour, or contributed their own little piece to our artwork. Your creativity, enthusiasm and willingness to get involved made this project so special.

We can’t wait to organise more communal art projects in the future — because there’s nothing better than creating something beautiful together! 💛

National Child Protection Week 2026

Every child deserves to feel safe, heard, valued and protected — not just this week, but every day.

At BiraBira ELC, we believe child safety is everyone’s responsibility. It’s about creating environments where children feel confident to speak up, knowing that the adults around them will listen, support them and take them seriously.

This National Child Protection Week, we’re celebrating the voices of our children and continuing our commitment to creating a safe, nurturing and inclusive place where every child can learn, grow and thrive. 🌱✨

Because when we listen to children, we help give them the confidence to use their voice to become the next generation of this world. 🗣️💛

💙 Happy Father’s Day from all of us at Birabira ELC! 💙

Today, we’re celebrating all the wonderful dads and father figures who fill our children’s lives with love, laughter, guidance and endless support. 🥰

To all the dads, grandfathers, uncles, nonnos, godfathers and special people who hold a very special place in our children’s hearts — we hope you have a beautiful Father’s Day!

We also wanted to share a few special moments from our Father’s Day Afternoon Tea, where we had the pleasure of celebrating together with many of our Birabira families.

Thank you to everyone who joined us and helped make it such a lovely afternoon. And a big thank you to our incredible educators for all their work behind the scenes!

Wishing all of our Birabira father figures a wonderful Father’s Day weekend filled with love, laughter, cuddles and special memories with your little ones.

BiraBira ELC's 2026 Father's day afternoon tea | 04.09.2026

Another beautiful afternoon celebrating the dads, grandfathers, uncles, Nonnos, godfathers and all the special people who hold such an important place in the children’s lives.

We’d like to take a moment to wish all of our wonderful BiraBira families a very Happy Father’s Day this weekend! 💙

A special thank you to our incredible team of educators who work behind the scenes to make these events so special — from cleaning, preparing, cooking and setting up, to staying back and packing everything away once the celebrations were over. 🫶

Thank you also to everyone who poured their time and creativity into the beautiful gifts, activities and thoughtful setups for our families. Every little detail was made with so much care and love.

We feel incredibly lucky to have such a dedicated team who always goes above and beyond to create these special moments for our BiraBira community.

This is what makes BiraBira so special — a community that comes together, celebrates together and creates memories together. 💙✨

🚔👮‍♀️ What an exciting morning our Ikara 3-Year-Old Kindergarten children had today!

We were so fortunate to welcome Charlie's mum - Constable Felicia and her colleague - Constable Daphne, who visited us to share all about the important role police officers play in our community. The children were fascinated and had so many thoughtful questions!

Constable Felicia brought along police uniforms and photos for the children to explore, and even organised a special police investigation. Our little detectives worked together to search for clues and evidence to help rescue a missing police horse. We're happy to report that the case was solved very quickly! 🐴🔍

The highlight of the morning was sitting inside a real police car and hearing the siren. The excitement and smiles were unforgettable! 🚓✨

To make the day even more special, each child received a police badge, colouring book, stickers and a fidget spinner to take home.

A big thank you to Constable Felicia and Constable Daphne for taking the time to visit our Ikara children and provide such a fun, engaging and memorable learning experience. We loved learning about the people who help keep our community safe! 💙
