Year 6 Shark Tank
As part of our Financial Mathematics unit this term, the Year 6 students took part in our exciting annual Shark Tank event. Throughout the unit, students explored important business concepts, including consumer choice, the costs involved in running a business, sales, profit, and loss. They applied their learning by creating and operating their own small businesses for the day.
Students worked in teams to develop products and services, design advertising materials, calculate expenses, set prices, and predict profits.
Businesses included cookies, hot chocolate, milkshakes, waffles, and more.
The lead-up to the event was filled with planning, problem-solving, and decision-making as students learned that running a successful business requires much more than simply selling a product.
On the day the students quickly discovered the value of excellent customer service and learned how positive interactions can help attract and retain customers. They also experienced some of the challenges and stresses that business owners face, including managing stock levels, handling busy periods, and making quick decisions under pressure.
A huge thank you goes to the students, staff, and families who supported the event. Their enthusiasm helped make the day a tremendous success and a memorable learning experience for everyone involved.
Inspiring inquisitive minds.
