Have you ever just wanted to have coffee with some of the most experienced early and middle childhood leaders you could find, and just talk about the state of the sector, what is happening, and to support your own decision making … find out how they are responding?

We did …

We talked through the future of the profession, overloaded leadership roles and what can be done, viability threats and what solutions are available, leading staff and what succeeds, applying for grants (what works and why), and the Carewest professional learning program.

Solutions focused.
Reliable information.
A safe space.
Laughs guaranteed.

Join us at to get the support you need in your profession.

Carewest Association Inc. met with Sabine Winton MLA, to discuss the major issues in early childhood in Western Australia, including:

1. Planning and approval of new centres in areas where there is already an adequate supply
2. Centre Director and leadership team workload, the increasing turnover due to burnout, and the impact that has on centre operations
3. Centre committee support needs in the very specific WA operating environment
4. The impact of the 4-year-old school kindy trial on nearby centres and the viability threat those centres can face

We had an in-depth conversation, and we'll share detailed feedback and recommendations at our next members' meeting:

When: Wednesday 16 September at 10 am
Where can you find the link?: On our page on the day.

An important story

One medication error. Multiple National Law breaches. Lasting lessons for the ECEC sector.

A not-for-profit early learning provider has been ordered to pay $30,600 in disciplinary penalties after a three-year-old child received four times the prescribed dose of medication, with the State Administrative Tribunal finding multiple breaches of the Education and Care Services National Law and National Regulations.

While the provider had policies and procedures in place, the Tribunal found they were not consistently followed in practice.

The decision is a timely reminder that effective medication management relies on more than documentation. It requires:
- Educator competency and confidence
- Independent medication checks
- Ongoing auditing and verification
- Strong implementation of medical management plans
- Listening and responding to family concerns

For approved providers, nominated supervisors and educators, this case provides valuable insights into how regulators assess compliance, governance and children's safety.

Carewest journal notes from this week:

This week at Carewest:

we checked in on Centres impacted by the 4 yr olds school trial,
we spoke at sector forums,
we advocated for NFP Centres with low occupancy,
we helped a Director with their QIP,
we got to work on our website and on building a new website,
we organised events with the wonderful Remida
and we shared our resources in β€˜safe space’ discussions where Directors and leaders could ask for help.

That’s just part of what we do for members
