Well it definitely was a Marietta-themed night at South Burnett Toastmasters! 🎉

We were treated to a heartfelt speech from Marietta on the topic of gratitude, where she shared the story of how she first joined South Burnett Toastmasters some 23 years ago. She reflected on what she is most grateful for — particularly the culture of learning, encouragement, and the lifelong relationships built along the way.

Our Table Topics session was cleverly themed around Marietta, there was plenty of laughter and memories shared, and we even had cake to celebrate the occasion. 🍰

The club also held our executive elections for the upcoming year, and we are ready to roll into another exciting chapter.

Our next meeting will be on Thursday 4th June, 7:00pm at the Kingaroy RSL. Visitors are always welcome!

📣 Calling All Past Members 📣

This Thursday, 21st May at 7pm, our South Burnett Toastmasters meeting will begin at the Kingaroy RSL — and this meeting will be a little extra special.

It will be Marietta’s last meeting in Kingaroy (unless she comes back to visit us, of course!).

Marietta has truly become part of the furniture at Toastmasters. For decades, she has been the heart and soul of our club — encouraging, supporting, mentoring, and inspiring so many people along the way.

If you’ve ever met Marietta, you’ll know just how much she has meant to our club and our members over the years.

While it’s sad to see her go, we’re also excited for her next adventure and the wonderful time she’ll have creating memories with her grandchildren.

We would love to see past members join us as we come together to say goodbye, share stories, laughter, and celebrate everything Marietta has given to our club over the years.

Last night we held our Toastmasters Showcase Event, and what a fantastic evening it was!

A huge thank you to everyone who helped make the night possible, and to all our guests who came along to see what Toastmasters is all about. We truly appreciate your support.

One comment from a guest really stood out to me — she said she was impressed by the supportive environment we create.

That is exactly what Toastmasters is about: encouraging each other to grow in confidence, communication and leadership.

Let me introduce you to Shantelle 👏
Just over 12 months ago, Shantelle walked into Toastmasters with a clear goal — to improve her public speaking for a new job and business she wanted to start.

At her very first meeting, she didn’t hold back. She jumped in wherever she could — taking on the Warm Up (a quick 30-second speaking spot), and then bravely accepting a Table Topic… a 2-minute impromptu speech where you only find out the topic once you’re standing up in front of everyone.

Shantelle gave it a crack — and made it to 30 seconds.

And that’s where the journey began.
Over the following weeks and months, we saw exactly what Toastmasters is all about: growth through doing.

Step by step, Shantelle built her confidence. She delivered her first prepared speech, grew to speaking confidently for the full 2 minutes in Table Topics, and now…

She’s standing up and delivering educational sessions to the club.

From 30 seconds… to leading and teaching others.

That’s the power of saying “yes” and giving it a go.
