What happens when children are given the freedom to create without a template, without a finished example, and without being told what their artwork should look like?

Something pretty incredible. 🧡🍁

Our children began with one long piece of paper, a collection of loose parts, black markers, watercolours and food dye. From there, the experience belonged entirely to them.

They drew, painted, experimented, moved materials, shared brushes and built on one another’s ideas. Individual marks gradually connected until the paper became one enormous collaborative artwork eventually named “The Rainbow” by the children themselves.

Through a Reggio Emilia lens, this is exactly the kind of learning we value at Maples. Children are capable, curious researchers with their own ideas and theories. Our educators don’t need to determine what the finished product will be; instead, they create rich environments, provide beautiful materials, observe, listen and allow the learning to unfold.

And within all that colour and creativity was so much more, communication, negotiation, belonging, confidence, decision-making, imagination and the joy of contributing to something together.

A special morning out in our local community! ☕️🧡

Our children loved taking a walk through the neighbourhood for a special visit to Cru+ Café, where they enjoyed their very own babyccinos and spent time connecting with our local community.

We even had the excitement of meeting some friendly firefighters along the way! 🚒

A big thank you to the wonderful team at Cru+ Café for warmly welcoming our children and educators and for hosting such a lovely morning.

We love creating opportunities for our children to explore, connect and build meaningful relationships within their local community. 🧡

R U OK? Day at Maples 💛

Today we came together to recognise R U OK? Day and remind ourselves just how powerful a little conversation can be.

Our children got busy in the kitchen, baking some delicious treats to share, while one of our wonderful families also brought in some beautiful cookies for everyone to enjoy. We made sure our amazing educators were treated too, with a few special goodies to brighten their day.

R U OK? Day is an important reminder to check in with the people around us, our friends, families, colleagues and community.

Sometimes, a simple “Are you OK?” can make all the difference.

Because a little conversation can go a long way. 💛

🌿 Celebrating Father’s Day & Community at Maples Kilmore

Today our Kilmore community celebrated Father’s Day in a very special Maples way bringing together our children, families and local community!

We ventured across to our friends at the Rose Café to establish an exciting new community partnership and bring our Maples Community Garden to life. Together we planted a variety of herbs, spices and vegetables that, as they grow, will be harvested by the café and incorporated into their menu.

Our children and their special people also created their own decorated wooden spoons to add to the garden, creating a beautiful sense of connection, belonging and shared ownership of the space.

And of course, no garden is complete without a scarecrow! Using bottle tops we had collected and repurposed, the children and families worked together to create our very own colourful Maples scarecrow combining creativity, sustainability and plenty of fun.

We loved seeing our families come together, contribute to something meaningful and help create a space that will continue to grow alongside our relationship with Rose Café.

A beautiful way to celebrate the important fathers and special people in our children’s lives while strengthening our connections within the Kilmore community.

Happy Educators’ Day to our incredible Hawthorn East team! 🧡🍁

Today we celebrated the wonderful educators who bring Maples Early Learning – Hawthorn East to life each and every day.

Since opening our doors, this team has poured so much care, commitment and passion into creating the warm, welcoming and special community that Hawthorn East has become. We are incredibly grateful for everything they do for our children, families and one another.

Of course, we had to celebrate them Maples style with a beautiful catered lunch, plenty of fun and games, and their very own personalised Frank Green gift sets! Each set was thoughtfully selected and even hand-picked and packed at the Frank Green warehouse by Sami and Jarrod, adding a little extra Maples touch to say thank you.

To our Hawthorn East team, thank you for your hard work, your commitment and, most importantly, the care you bring through the doors every single day.

You are what makes Maples, Maples. 🧡🍁

Happy Educators’ Day to our incredible Maples team at Kilmore! 🍁🧡

Today was all about celebrating the amazing people who make Maples what it is every single day.

We are incredibly grateful for the commitment, passion and hard work our educators bring to Maples. It’s the care you show our children, the relationships you build with our families, the way you support one another and the pride you take in what you do that makes our Maples community so special.

We had to celebrate in true Maples style! Our team enjoyed a beautiful catered lunch, plenty of fun games and activities, and a very special personalised Frank Green gift set for every educator.

A little extra Maples love went into the gifts too, with Sami and Jarrod personally hand-picking the colour combinations and even heading into the Frank Green warehouse to pack each set themselves. Just a small way of showing how much thought, care and appreciation we have for every member of our team.

To our wonderful educators, thank you for everything you do, not just today, but every single day.

Maples simply wouldn’t be Maples without you.

Quality Improvement is about taking the time to reflect, listen, collaborate and always look for ways we can grow.

As part of our Quality Improvement Plan our kilmore team worked alongside the children to reflect on the many strengths of our service, what we do well, what we are proud of, and what makes Maples, Maples!

And of course, we did it Maples style! Rather than a standard meeting or piece of paper, we created one giant collaborative mind map stretching all the way down the hallway!

Our QIP isn’t something that simply sits in a folder. It is a living, evolving reflection of our service, shaped by the voices of our educators, children and families.

Because the best improvement happens when everyone has a voice. 🧡🍁
