SO much has changed since I started this page 7 odd years back. I felt this section was due for an update. I have stopped doing feet, except for the odd rehab, and focused on my problem solving, training and starting. A big part of the change has come about due to the growth of my understanding of the horse, as they teach me more and show me how to see them differently. We still work on the basis

that the horse is never bad or naughty, and use equine psychology to understand specific behavioural problems and work out how we can change to address the issue. But I have come to realise nearly every outcome of an interaction is based around how the horse feels; mentally, physically and most importantly, emotionally. Is it in full self defense mode? Is it tolerating us? Is it purely being obedient? Is it sore? Is it unwell? Or does it trust us to keep it safe and inspire it to work with us? Basically, if it is happy, it will give its best performance and it will be SAFE. Where does Balanced Equine Performance fit into the scene? We aspire to either start horses so they need no rehab from their training, or help them with problems in the same manner. In any case, it is a ground up approach. Not get em in, get em started, and get em out approach. I have loved the physical rehab cases we have been lucky enough to work with, and continue to love the lessons the horse gives. We feel the owner is the key player in it all, so work tirelessly to bring the owner along for the ride.
