Big thank you to Kiama Preschool for inviting me to come and talk to the kids about what I do and what’s inside everyday electrical items. I think educating the younger generations is very important as I am sure parents want the earth to be as sustainable as possible for when their kids grow up!

It was also funny going back there 20 years after I used to go there!

Collecting large sticks and natural items to construct a humpty during todays walk on Country. The children demonstrated an increasing knowledge of and respect for the natural environment ensuring we took what was left on Country and not nature that is still growing. Learning Outcome: 2 children are connected and contribute to their world.

This mornings walk on Country allowed the children to explore nature and the natural environment as we walked to surf beach. The children used a camera to collect photos of the flowers and plants along the way to later share with their peers and to investigate what is native to Australia and what has been introduced.

Preschool returns Monday the 17th of July for term 3. Children will be celebrating NAIDOC week with their educators. Looking at the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander People.

In term one, a small group of children on their walk on Dharawal country, wrote letters to the Kaleula Headland Landcare group, located at the south end of Kendall’s beach. Through this connection, the children were invited this term to join Heather, Meredith and Wade, to each plant their very own native plant, building the foundation of learning how they can contribute and make a difference to their world.

Their action of planting and growing native plants will be a life long experience, not only for themselves, but the whole community, who will benefit from the shade and improved biodiversity along the headland.

Today’s walk on country had a focus on mathematics. The small group of children discussed what we might see on our walk. Using a graph to collect data and represent our findings the children were active participants for their own learning. We were looking for flowers, buses, trains and street signs. The children each had a turn using the tally, counting and sharing their discoveries.

Throughout our previous walks the children have been fascinated by watching the train from the bridge near the petrol station - sometimes we would see it and sometimes we would not.

After much planning, we ventured to Kiama Train Station. We had a meeting to assess the risks and discuss how to stay safe on the platform.

"Don't go near the yellow line, you could fall on the tracks" - C.

We were delighted to watch the arrival of a passenger train from Sydney and the freight train from Manildra. 🚞🚂🛤️

Thank you to our Dads that are apart of the SES and took time out of their busy day to teach us about what the important jobs the SES do within our Kiama community. Including helping stranded animals, car crashes and storm & flood damage.
