This week Haileybury Firsts teams, along with teams across the APS and AGSV, are acknowledging and celebrating National Reconciliation Week through Reconciliation Round. Players proudly donned beautifully designed Indigenous uniforms in recognition of the occasion. 💛🖤❤️

Also featuring in today's photos is the Haileybury Boys Hockey Firsts team, who took on Wesley College in a nail biting match at Keysborough. 🏑

Wesley jumped to an early lead and controlled the early play, however, our boys fought back and scored twice to earn a hard fought 2-2 draw.

Great effort boys!! 🙌❤️

As part of National Reconciliation Week, this year’s theme, “All In,” is a powerful reminder for all Australians to commit to reconciliation every day.

From Monday 27 May through to Monday 3 June, students are deepening their understanding of our shared histories and cultures. So far, students have engaged in a variety of activities, including listening to guest speakers, taking part in dance workshops, and learning about the significance of Indigenous symbols in traditional artworks.

At Edrington (Berwick), students used pieces of paperbark gathered on the school grounds by National Reconciliation Committee member and Larrakia woman Claire Johns to create artworks representing community, connection and unity.

Activities will continue across the School throughout next week, providing further opportunities for students to engage with and reflect on the importance of reconciliation.

Castlefield (Brighton) Year 7 students were captivated by a dynamic performance from Poetry in Action. Through powerful delivery, humour and dramatic interpretation, students experienced poetry coming to life on stage. The performance deepened their understanding of language, meaning and expression, while inspiring them to engage more confidently with their own poetry reading and writing during their Term 2 unit, The Poet's Message.

Up next in our co-curricular series is Pilates.

Pilates offers Senior School students the chance to improve their fitness and wellbeing in a supportive environment. Whether you have previous experience or are completely new to Pilates, this activity is open to everyone keen to discover a fun approach to exercise.

Isabelle (Year 12, Berwick) shares, “I chose Reformer Pilates as my Tuesday afternoon co-curricular activity because I already have some previous experience with it and know it’s a great way to stay active while also having fun. It’s a really enjoyable way to exercise and unwind during the week. I’m really enjoying improving my fitness and strength, while also having a lot of fun with my friends throughout the sessions. I would definitely encourage others to give it a go, you might end up loving it!”

Tahani (Year 12, Berwick) says, “Doing it with my friends makes it even better. I would tell others to enjoy it because it’s a really good experience as part of the sport program, and they should make the most of the opportunities offered as a Year 12, especially this.”
