Jacqueline Cox-Taylor Special education consultant. Providing professional, empathetic care for people with special needs, specialising in autism.

Sand therapy and expressive therapies, are non invasive and non confrontational . Children experiencing feelings arising from grief, trauma or simply related to growing up can process these feelings in the safe environment of the sand tray or through guided drawings . These therapies offer a confidential avenue for the child to process and explore her feelings. I offer workshops for groups of pare

nts or teachers. Workshop topics include but are not limited to :

> Tailoring the curriculum to meet the needs of the special needs child
> Age appropriate material/content made accessible for non verbal children
> Understanding autism - strategies for calming, de -stressing, coping with melt downs
> The special needs child in the main stream classroom
> Performing a play with non verbal children

Parenting a child with special needs can sometimes be a lonely vocation. I'd love to get to know your child and work with you both to assist your child reaching his potential. From a position of positivity and enthusiasm I will :-form a relation ship with your child, assist his communication development- to enable him to express his thoughts and feelings, work with him to help him self regulate his emotions and identify his triggers, and also discover with him ways to calm and de stress himself. With over thirty years experience as a special education specialist I have worked with many children and alongside many staff. I can visit teachers in their classrooms, spend a day with them to observe their children and the situation . I will then write a detailed report of observations and strategies. My philosophy is positivity- finding the strengths of both the children and their teacher. I offer a one off assessment or a period of mentoring , during which I would work with the teacher supporting her with her class. I am a registered mentor teacher and specialise in working with children displaying challenging behaviours, children diagnosed with autism and children with emotional disturbance .
