UNSW Student Legal Education Group - SLEG Engaging, Educating and Empowering communities in Greater Sydney for over 40 years ✨⚖️

SLEG is a non-profit, non-government organisation that exists to engage, educate and empower members of community through law-related education. SLEG was rebranded in 2014 from Schools Legal Education Group reflecting the extension of the program to cater for local & regional community groups, as well as high schools. UNSW Law Students are known for their unwavering commitment to social justice and a long legacy of working with disadvantaged groups. SLEG seeks to ensure everyone is empowered with the basic legal knowledge and awareness of their rights. We promote the integration of law-related education in schools and local & regional communities. The modules also seek to debunk some of the commonly assumed ‘myths’ about key areas of the law, and to promote a critical engagement with basic legal material. They are presented by small groups of volunteers in a manner, which emphasises personal engagement and active participation.

5 presentations. 15 presenters. One incredible experience at Bonnyrigg High School👏🏻

We were thrilled to deliver five SLEG presentations across multiple days, reaching almost the entire Year 10 cohort at Bonnyrigg High School!

With a team of 15 presenters, we explored a range of important topics, including:
- Technology & the Law
- Consumer Law
- Police Powers
- Crime
- Human Rights

This was our first time delivering such a large number of presentations across multiple days at one school, and we couldn’t have asked for a better experience! We were so impressed by the students’ enthusiasm, thoughtful questions, participation and willingness to engage with each topic. 🙌🏻

A huge thank you to Bonnyrigg High School for welcoming SLEG and providing such a wonderful environment for legal education.

We’re incredibly proud of our 15 presenters for making each session engaging, interactive and informative. We look forward to continuing to empower young people through legal education and creating more meaningful experiences like this! Thanks to Youth Law Australia for joining us.

Khanh shares a day in her life as a SLEG presenter as we kick off our annual Regional Trip with a visit to Erina High School!

Our presenters had an amazing time delivering two modules:
