Bluesat UNSW
Bluesat is UNSW’s space engineering and interest society. Applications forms in the link below!
Bluesat is one of UNSW's oldest project societies and has been the center of space engineering for students since 1997. We have designed and developed dozens of projects from start to finish, including (but not limited to) satellites, high-altitude weather balloons, rovers, drones, astronautical software packages and more. A significant majority of our events are open to all UNSW students. This in
The first Groundstation pass night was so nice we had to do it twice🔥📡
Our first Groundstation pass night was a huge success, receiving data from the satellite GK-24 and capturing a stunning image of the Earth 🌍 💫
Come join our upcoming Groundstation pass night‼️‼️
Date: 25th of June, Week 4 Friday
Location: To be decided
We’re starting the night off with a bbq 🍗 🍖
Then we’re moving onto an informative session with the Bluesat satellite members
and lastly we will observe a satellite pass 🛰️ by using an SDR to process a signal, producing images seen from above.
Bluesat’s Groundstation pass night was a roaring success! We successfully received data from the satellite GK-2A, allowing us to process the amazing images of Earth seen in our recent past night post- make sure you check it out!
Come and learn how to use CAM software with me 🖥️⌨️
Bluesat’s training sessions offer the members a way to gain technical experience and learn new skills.
If you’re interested in space-related engineering, apply for Bluesat!
Applications close Sunday, 31st of May 11:59pm

Bluesat T2 Applications Are Now Open‼️
If you are interested in space-related engineering, Bluesat is the place for you!
Across our projects, we are looking for various roles in:
- Mechanical Engineering
- Electrical Engineering
- Software Engineering
We love to see applications from students in all engineering disciplines in all years of study!
We are taking new students in T2 across these projects:
- 🏎️ Off-World Robotics: Off-World Robotics (OWR) is Bluesats rover project, design and create a rover platform where we compete for the Australian Rover Challenge annually. A competition that simulates lunar missions against university teams across the world.
- 🎈High-Altitude Balloon: Work on our high altitude balloon test platform, launching flights up to 34km in altitude in partnership with industry sponsors for scientific research and space hardware testing.
- 📡 Groundstation: Work on our portable satellite-tracking groundstation, to autonomously track and communicate with satellites, as well as our permanently stationed rooftop groundstation.
- 🛰️ Satellite: Join our newest project, working in partnership with UNSW Rocketry to create a scientific research payload to be launched at the Australian Universities Rocketry Challenge (AURC) 2026.

We’d like to give a big thank you to Ansys and Leap Australia for their ongoing support of Bluesat UNSW in providing both training and software across the Ansys Suite! Their softwares have been crucial in testing and validating the systems built across our society. Post the Australian Rover Challenge 2026, our Off-World Robotics team have been simulating the structural integrity of our drive train using Ansys Mechanical, utilising key features of Ansys’ meshing and simulations to validate our drive train uprights and wheels for continued use in the Australian Rover Challenge 2027 ⚙️
