Another exciting couple of days for our MacKillop Discovers Canberra Year 10 students as they continued exploring key pillars of Australian civics and citizenship.
The girls began yesterday at the High Court of Australia, learning about roles and responsibilities within our legal system, before heading to the Electoral Education Centre to participate in the Youth Eligible Elector program.
At the Museum of Australian Democracy at Old Parliament House, students engaged in the Democracy, Media and Me workshop, developing their understanding of how media shapes public discourse, followed by a visit to the National Portrait Gallery for their Civics and Citizenship session.
Yesterday concluded with a memorable twilight tour at the Australian National Botanic Gardens — a wonderful opportunity to connect with Australia’s unique natural environment.
Today the girls visited Questacon, National Gallery of Australia, Canberra learning the stories of Australian art, enjoyed a guided tour of the Royal Australian Mint and finished the day at the National Archives of Australia.
Each day rich in learning, reflection and discovery — we look forward to seeing more of their Canberra adventures as the journey continues.🇦🇺

Today, our Year 10 MacKillop girls taking part in Beyond the Classroom enjoyed an experience to remember at Fresh 92.7!🎙️
From being in the studio while breakfast hosts Tom and Callum were live on air, to hearing Ms Nelson on the radio, it was an unforgettable morning behind the scenes.
After their set, Tom and Callum generously shared an industry masterclass, offering students a valuable insight into the world of radio and broadcasting.
It was also wonderful to reconnect with Alumna and 2017 College Captain, Renae Albuino, who is now part of the Fresh 92.7 team.
We can’t wait to see their student-created radio station businesses and hear their sets on MacKillop Radio tomorrow at lunchtime!🎧💙💛

Yesterday our Year 10 students kicked off BEYOND The Classroom 2026 with an exciting, hands-on introduction to Vocational Education & Training!
The day started at Celtic Training, where students discovered the incredible diversity of careers in Allied Health. Hands-on activities including performing the perfect hospital corners, manual handling, infection control and patient care provided an invaluable insight into the Health Science industry and gave students a real-world connection between their subjects and post-school employment.
After lunch, the exploration continued at The French Beauty Academy, where students were welcomed with a campus tour and an introduction to the academy, before taking part in a hands-on workshop focused on beauty product application.

On Thursday, our STEM Club students stepped into the role of forensic scientists, analysing “blood” samples to help track down a mystery suspect…👀
Using Anti-A, Anti-B and Anti-Rh serums, students tested each sample, carefully observing for clotting — also known as agglutination — to determine each suspects’ blood type.🩸
While our STEM Sleuths are getting closer to the answer… the question remains… who could it be?🕵️♀️
An engaging hands-on session exploring real-world science, critical thinking and a little bit of detective work!
👩🔬No real blood was used in this investigation… just great science and sharp detective skills!

Today, the Year 10 students studying Italian at Mary MacKillop College and Rostrevor College came together for our annual community-building event,
The Collage of Migration.💛💙❤️🖤
Together, they welcomed families, friends and special guests, including Mrs Silvia Piccaluga (Fleet STEM Coordinator), The Honourable Claire Clutterham MP (Member for Sturt), The Honourable Cressida O'Hanlon MP (Member for Dunstan), Sr Theresa Swiggs and Sr Mary Cresp.
It was a wonderful event, and truly heartwarming to hear students reflect on the powerful stories and experiences of the remarkable individuals they connected with throughout the project. Through these conversations, students deepened their understanding of migration, identity and belonging, while developing empathy and a genuine appreciation for the diverse journeys that shape our community. Their reflections highlighted not only language learning in action, but the meaningful human connections at the heart of this experience.
The day concluded with a joyful celebration of Italian culture—featuring traditional music, dancing, games and a shared love of the Italian language! 💃🎶
