Dalaigur & Scribbly Gum Dalai Providing Aboriginal Early Education on Dunghutti country

Dalaigur Pre-School & Children's Services is a 3-unit Independent Indigenous owned community pre-school which serves the community of Kempsey and outlying areas of Kempsey Shire, including Bellbrook. Although priority is given to Indigenous children we do have an active reconciliation policy which allows non Indigenous children to attend. We employ two University degree qualified early childhood t

eachers and all our staff hold professional certificates demonstrating their diligence and dedication. We offer innovative early childhood educational programs that have proven to be successful and are culturally appropriate with Australian Indigenous children. We have an excellent reputation within, the local township, professional peers, universities (who often set up their training videos using our techniques in teaching Koori Kids), and the local schools who have all vouch for Dalaigur Pre-School & Children's Services. We have been operating successfully for Fifty One years and been self-managed since 1991
Dalaigur Pre-school currently enrols 118 Aboriginal children aged 3 to 6 years over a 5 day period. The children are provided with an emergent curriculum of activities and interests that are developmentally appropriate and culturally inclusive

This week has been a little tough for all our children, families and educators as we navigate getting our buses repaired, after the weekends vandalism.

We want to thank everyone for the outpouring of community support we have received - it has truly warmed our hearts.

Our children have been processing what has happened to our buses, and have created this video to show everyone how it has made them feel - thank you to our Wambuyn children and Eduators, for being so brave!

This demonstrates what amazing children we have at Pre-School, and empowers them to stand up for what is right and wrong - here are our future Leaders!

We are not here to point fingers or do the blame game, we just want to get on with our amazing work of delivering high quality, culturally safe Early Education to our children and support our families.

Marrungbu (thank you) everyone!

We need your support and help!!

Our buses were smashed yesterday afternoon at 5.35pm by young individuals who believe they have a right to come into our Pre-School and create thousands of dollars of damage.

This was a callous attack on our buses, with the individuals using bricks, pieces of wood and rocks.

Not only is there a huge price tag on getting these repaired or replaced, but now our children have had no buses today to pick them up and bring them to Pre-School, and moving forward till we get them repaired, we will have limited transport available to our families - which could be a couple of weeks.

All 3 of our buses were attacked including our two new buses that we have worked extremely hard to get through various grants over the last 3 years.

Dissappointing is an understatement, but if anyone has any information on this event please get in touch with Aunty Deb on 65624758 or Kempsey Police Station. All security camera footage is now with the police and any evidence that they have collected.

I really hope that our community can do better.

What an amazing celebration we had on Tuesday celebrating 50 years of NAIDOC and also Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Chidlren's Day!

It was so lovely and heart warming to see all the community organisations come together to support our event and provide activities for our children and their families. Our dalai's had so much fun!

A huge Murrungbu to Aboriginal Affairs NSW for providing a grant so we could put on the day - it is very much appreciated. To Melville High School Nasca girls and the Kempsey High School boys for coming along and performing cultural dances for us - you guys were amazing!

Another shout out is to the boys of Newington Cllege who helped with the set up, pack up and the serving of our food to all of our guests! To Jackson from Easy As Productions for the sound system and music all day long!

We loved having our guests come along and enjoy the day along with us and it was very special to have Green Hill Public School, Hands and Heart Early Leaning Centre and some Elders from Booroongen come and join us too!

Marrungbu everyone - it was such a wonderful day!

Yawayi everyone!!

This is the final call for our General Members who have not been active with our Aboriginal Corporation over the last two years.

With the new Child Protection legislation and the focus on services standing strong in the National Child Safe Organisation principles especially Principle One "Child safety and wellbeing is embedded in organisational leadership, governance and culture" - we are looking at our governance and how to increase our already high standards focusing on Child Safety.

We are asking all our General Members of Dalaigur Pre-School & Children's Services Aboriginal Corporation to make contact with Aunty Debbie on 65624758 or [email protected] to confirm your current contact details. If we have not heard from you within 7 days from today, your membership status will become inactive.

Marrungbu everyone!
