FROM THE CLASSROOM TO THE STAGE!

Meet .EDU – three local teachers proving that their passion for music goes well beyond the classroom! 💙

Made up of Murray Dickinson, Cameron Upcroft and Nathan Edwards, this Crescent Head band isn’t just bringing live music to our local venues – they’re helping make a real difference in our community.

And there’s one local legend whose contribution deserves a special shout-out!

Murray Dickinson has dedicated so much of his time and energy to inspiring the next generation of young musicians.

From helping organise the Macleay Public Schools Music Festival to taking Crescent Head Public School students on musical roadshows across the region, Murray is giving local kids opportunities to perform, build confidence and discover a lifelong love of music. 🎵

The school’s Music Roadshow reached over 12 schools across the Macleay and Hastings regions!

It’s people like Murray, Cameron and Nathan who remind us just how much talent, generosity and community spirit we have right here in the Macleay Valley.

We love sharing the stories of the people who make our Valley special!

A big welcome to Lilli Pilli Ladies Inc. who are now part of the Macleay Valley Hub!

For 10 years, this wonderful group of local women has been bringing people together, supporting our community and proving just how powerful friendship, connection and a good cause can be.

And what better way to celebrate a decade of Lilli Pilli Ladies than with an Afternoon Tea

Chelsea Darling — Making Waves From the Macleay Valley

From the waves of Hat Head to state and national-level competition, Macleay Valley surfer Chelsea Darling has been steadily building an impressive competitive surfing career.

Chelsea came to wider attention in 2024, when she won the Under 16 Girls division at the inaugural Reflections Cadet Cup at Rainbow Beach, Bonny Hills, competing against some of NSW’s talented young surfers.

That same year, Chelsea was selected to represent NSW in the Under 16 Cadet Girls division, earning her place amongst some of the state’s strongest junior surfers ahead of the Australian Junior Surfing Titles.

Chelsea’s growing talent was also recognised closer to home when she was awarded the Port Macquarie Boardriders Rising Star Award in 2024 — another exciting milestone in what was a standout year for the young Macleay Valley surfer.

Chelsea has continued to test herself across junior and open competition, including competing in the Australian Shortboard Series and stepping into the Open Women’s division at the NSW Surf Masters State Titles, where she finished third in NSW in 2025.

Her strong results continued at the Reflections Cadet Cup at Tuncurry, where she finished second in the Under 16 Girls division, before progressing into Under 18 competition.

By 2026, Chelsea was competing in the Under 18 Girls division, representing the North Coast and continuing to take on some of the best young surfers in NSW.

Chelsea has also been recognised as one of the talented surfers coming through the local Crescent Head Boardriders community — carrying on a pretty incredible surfing tradition from our part of the coast.

For a young surfer coming out of Hat Head and the Macleay Valley, Chelsea’s journey from local waves to state and national competition is something our community can be incredibly proud of.

From Hat Head to the state stage, Chelsea Darling is definitely one of our local surfers to watch.
