Our HSC English Extension II students have brought their creativity, curiosity and critical thinking to life through their major works. 📖

From original writing to ambitious ideas and unique perspectives, these seven students have embraced the challenge of developing 6,000-word short fiction works or 5,000-word critical responses, with a further 1,500-word reflection statement. Their substantial major works reflect their individual voices and passions after eight months of writing, reviewing and editing. ✍️

We are incredibly proud of their dedication, imagination and persistence they have shown throughout the process of their major works! 👏 🥰

🐍 SCIENCE WEEK AT EMMAUS 🧪

As part of our Science Week festivities, we welcomed some slimy and venomous creatures who slid their way to the Sister Patricia Tully Centre (College Hall) 🫢

From goannas, snakes and crocodiles, our students enjoyed a close-up encounter with a few different non-venomous reptiles. Specifically, our students learned about brown snakes, who are often spotted on our grounds here at Emmaus!

We extend our gratitude to Chris from ‘Snake Tails’ for visiting our College and sharing his ectothermic friends with students and staff. 🐊 🙌

🏛️ REFLECTING ON VIETNAM VETERANS DAY 🌹

Vietnam Veterans Day is held on the anniversary of the Battle of Long Tan, fought on 18th August, 1966, in a rubber plantation near the village of Long Tan in Vietnam. During this battle, 17 Australians were killed and 25 were wounded.

On Tuesday, Angelina D (Year 12), Justine T and Elisha S (Year 11), proudly represented our College at the St Marys RSL Sub-Branch Vietnam Veterans Day Service. Accompanied by Mrs Nevin and Mr Murphy, they laid a wreath in the servicemen and women's honour, and reflected on the bravery, resilience and sacrifice of our Vietnam veterans. 🥰

Let us ensure that their stories are told, their service is honoured and that their legacy lives on.

💛 DAFFODIL DAY AT EMMAUS 🌼

Today, our staff and students added a little sunshine to their school day by wearing yellow accessories in support of Daffodil Day. ☀️

Led by Tabor House, this wonderful initiative brought our Emmaus community together to show support, spread awareness and remind us of the importance of standing alongside families impacted by cancer. 🫶

From yellow ribbons to bright accessories, our students showed that even the smallest splash of colour can make a meaningful difference.

A special thanks to Mr Craig and our Tabor House Captains for organising this initiative and bringing our community together for such an important cause! ✨

♻️ RECYCLE TO DONATE: RETURN AND EARN AT EMMAUS 🧃

To embody the Catholic social teaching of stewardship, our Faith-in-Action Team (FIAT) are encouraging students to care for the environment by participating in the College’s ‘Recycle to Donate’ initiative. 🙌

Students will find a red ‘Return and Earn’ bin located outside the staffroom near the amphitheatre, where they can recycle their empty plastic bottles, cans and poppers.

We’ve also teamed up with the residents from Emmaus Village who have already donated a few bags of recyclables to get this initiative started. 👏

All proceeds generated will be donated to charity. We encourage all students to get involved and support this fantastic initiative that helps our environment, people in our community and puts our faith-into-action! 😊

🏫 AT EMMAUS, WE SAY ‘BULLYING NO WAY’ ❌

This week marks the ‘Bullying No Way: National Week of Action,’ an important initiative that prevents bullying by fostering a shared understanding of bullying behaviours while highlighting strategies for their prevention.

Throughout the week, we’ll be promoting ‘Bullying No Way’ during class, sharing resources with students, raising awareness about the types of bullying, and providing practical strategies to prevent/stop bullying. ✋

Specifically, we’ll be placing a spotlight on ‘Small Acts, Big Impact,’ encouraging students to identify small acts of bullying and practice micro-inclusion to break down those invisible walls. ⛓️‍💥

At Emmaus, we choose to maintain a culture of respect, inclusion and kindness, and will continue to provide our students with the resources and support they need to say ‘Bullying No Way!’ 🙌

🌟 STUDENT SPOTLIGHT 🌟

Congratulations to Year 9 student, Annie H, who has successfully progressed to the Regional Final of the NSW Junior Secondary Speaking Award. 🤩👏

Annie is no stranger to the microphone, participating in many public speaking competitions during her time at Emmaus. Annie’s prepared speech was centered around the issue of homelessness. She also shortly after delivered a second impromptu speech based upon the stimulus "unfinished business.” 🎤

From a talented field of 16 speakers, only 3 were chosen to progress to the Regional Final. This is an impressive achievement that demonstrates Annie’s confidence and dedication to public speaking. We wish her the best of luck as she competes at the Regional Final in a few weeks! 🤞

We’d also like to take this opportunity to congratulate Year 9 student, Cassandra M, who delivered a wonderful speech on the lack of opportunities and fairness for women in Formula 1 motor racing—reaching this stage of the competition is an impressive achievement, well done Cassandra! ⭐
