Our Year 11 SCP students recently visited Boondall Wetlands as part of their Ecology studies, with a focus this term on Environmental Impact.

During the excursion, students took part in an ecology programme delivered by the Boondall Wetlands Environment Centre at Brisbane City Council. This hands-on learning experience included testing water quality in a nearby creek and conducting vegetation sampling in the wetlands. Students will now use the data they collected in the field to write a scientific report assessing the health of the Boondall Wetlands ecosystem.

It was a valuable opportunity for students to apply their classroom learning in a real-world setting and deepen their understanding of ecological science.

The Kelvin Grove Junior School P&C Lapathon.

Coming Friday 18 September on the Junior School Oval from 11:15 am to 1:10 pm, with water play stations around the oval, a No Splash Zone with bubbles and music, and a Chill Out Zone from JK block.

Families are encouraged to start fundraising today via the event page, and supporters should make sure they select their child’s class when donating.

The fundraiser is supporting upgrades to the Junior School Tuckshop, and reaching the school target of $35,000 will unlock the Principal Sundae Challenge, turning Mr Burke into a human sundae after the Lapathon.

Students are asked to bring a sun-safe hat, towel, full change of clothes, plastic bag, water bottle and enclosed shoes. For water play, only small water guns are allowed, and pump-action water blasters and high-pressure water pistols are not permitted.

You can donate or fundraise here: https://www.mycause.com.au/events/lapathon2026.

Our Silver Level Duke of Edinburgh students recently completed their Qualifying Adventurous Journey at Cressbrook Dam near Toowoomba.

With chilly nights, beautiful winter hiking conditions, stunning scenery and plenty of wildlife, students embraced the experience with resilience and teamwork. It was also fantastic to see how much their camp cooking skills had improved since their practise journey, with students preparing some delicious meals.

Ending each day around the campfire was a well-earned reward after tackling steep terrain on the trail. Congratulations to our students on a fantastic achievement.
