🎬 Cinematica 2026! ✨

Last night, we celebrated the incredible creativity and filmmaking talent of our Year 12 Film students at Cinematica 2026, their final Film Showcase at QACI!

The evening kicked off in true Hollywood style with a red carpet event, where our Year 12 filmmakers stepped into the spotlight for interviews with Media Team members Maggie and Sonal, before heading into the theatre for a night of original student films. 🎤📸

From writing and directing to cinematography, editing and sound design, Cinematica was a celebration of the creativity, dedication and storytelling skills our students have developed throughout their IB Film journey.

A huge congratulations to all our Year 12 filmmakers on their final film showcase! What a way to bring your time behind the camera at QACI to a close. 💙

Special thanks to Mr Brockman, Mr Carozza and Ms Oliver for organising such a fantastic evening, and to our Media Team and Tech Team members for their hard work behind the scenes to ensure everything ran smoothly. 🎬👏💙

💚 Mental Health Week at QACI 🧠

This week, we’re taking some time to recognise Mental Health Week and the importance of looking after our wellbeing and staying connected with those around us.

Yesterday and today, our School Nurse Nerissa and Student Wellbeing Officer Mitch hosted activities on the Blue Goose deck, giving students a chance to take a break, connect and get involved. 💬💚

Today also brought a particularly well-timed treat, with Zooper Doopers handed out to students as the weather starts heating up this term! ☀️🧊

A big thank you to Nerissa and Mitch for organising the activities and continuing to support the wellbeing of our QACI community throughout the year. 💙

🏆 Congratulations, Dr Alice Elwell! 💙

We are incredibly proud to congratulate our Head of English and Theory of Knowledge, Dr Alice Elwell, on receiving the Dr Alan Druery OAM Memorial Award for Excellence in Teaching as part of the 2026 TEACHX Awards!

Selected from more than 370 nominations, Dr Elwell is one of just five recipients recognised in this award category.

Through her leadership at QACI, Dr Elwell inspires students to think deeply, challenge assumptions and value their own ideas, creating learning experiences where curiosity, critical thinking and intellectual confidence can thrive. Her impact extends beyond the classroom through her commitment to supporting colleagues, strengthening teaching practice and fostering a culture of continuous learning.

Reflecting on the award, Dr Elwell shared:
“For the first time in my life, I am at a loss for words. Teaching means the world to me, so this award is something I will treasure. I am the teacher I am because at QACI I can be my authentic self. Thank you to every student I have ever taught, and every colleague who has inspired me and shaped my teaching.”

A very well-deserved recognition of an educator who has made an extraordinary contribution to our students, staff and wider QACI community. 🎓💙

What a way to finish Term 3! 🎉

QACI Talentfest brought all the fun, colour and creativity today, with students repping their House colours and getting involved in an epic line-up of activities including Party Games, Trivia, Battle of the Bands, Chalk Art, Theatre Sports, Lip Sync Battle and Super Mario Kart.

Such an awesome day to celebrate the end of term and the incredible spirit of our QACI community! ❤️💛💚

A huge shoutout to our 8 amazing Year 10 students who proudly represented QACI in a whole-of-brand photoshoot alongside QASMT and QAHS yesterday.
They brought enthusiasm, confidence and plenty of QACI spirit to the day and when asked to strike a pose, they certainly delivered! Among the polished shots were a few unforgettable outtakes featuring some delightfully overperformed poses… all in good fun, and very much in character.

Thank you to these students for being such wonderful ambassadors for our school. We’re so proud of the energy, personality and pride you brought to the experience. We really appreciate you!

A huge shoutout to our 8 amazing Year 10 students who proudly represented QACI in a whole-of-brand photoshoot alongside Queensland Academy for Science, Mathematics & Technology and Queensland Academies Health Sciences Campus yesterday.
They brought enthusiasm, confidence and plenty of QACI spirit to the day and when asked to strike a pose, they certainly delivered! Among the polished shots were a few unforgettable outtakes featuring some delightfully overperformed poses… all in good fun, and very much in character.

🎻🎼 Yesterday, our Year 10 Music students had the incredible opportunity to hear their original four-part string quartet compositions brought to life by professional musicians.

Throughout the workshop, students listened as their works were performed live and received invaluable feedback on the idiomatic techniques of writing for strings - from articulation, bowing and phrasing to balance, texture and instrumental range.

🌟 We were fortunate to welcome an outstanding group of musicians, including Sonia Wilson (violin, Queensland Symphony Orchestra), Nicole Greentree (viola, Queensland Symphony Orchestra) and Dr Daniel Bentley (Freelance Cellist and Festival curator), Christa Powell (A founding member of Topology Strings).

For our students, hearing music that had previously existed only on the page performed by professional musicians was an incredibly rewarding experience. The workshop provided an authentic opportunity to refine their compositions, develop their understanding of writing for live instruments and strengthen their growing composition folios.
