On a recent visit to see how the Year 11 Public Sector trainees have started the year, 6 months into their work for the State government, Kaylee Devlin in Year 11 received glowing feedback and praise for her work and attitude.
Kaylee, in Year 10 last year, went through the application process and secured employment with the Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions. Kaylee is in paid work on Thursday and Friday and then has three days at school in Year 11. Kaylee’s supervisors and mentors were full of praise and Kaylee confidently showed me around the building and her office space. An amazing start to Year 11 Kaylee – well done.

On Wednesday, the 10th June, the Kelmscott SHS Senior Choir performed at Dalefest at Kelmscott Hall. Dalefest is an annual choral festival featuring performances from local schools. Our students performed three community songs, along with Gwynne Park Primary School, Marri Grove Primary School, Neerigan Brook Primary School and Roleystone Community College, to an appreciative audience of parents and special guests. Our students then performed Tenerife Sea under the direction of our voice teacher, Maree Cole.

These activities give students the chance to try something new, have a go in a relaxed setting, and connect with other students and staff. The focus is not on being the best at the activity but on participation, effort, and willingness to step outside their comfort zone.
We hope these activities help our students build confidence, practise persistence, and make positive social connections across the school.

Congratulations to Ella Smith in Year 11, who has been representing Kelmscott SHS so well through her Workplace learning placement over the last few months.
Ella has been hosted by the Rodway Group, where her supervisor, Skyla, was full of praise for Ella’s efforts. During her placement, Ella has been assisting with rent inspections, contributing to inspection reports, learning about property leasing processes and helping in home open preparations. Ella’s punctuality and dedication have truly stood out—she is a fantastic ambassador for our school. Well done, Ella!

We are incredibly proud of our talented students, whose lunchtime gigs have been recognised by the Western Australian Department of Education. Their passion, creativity and commitment to sharing their musical talents with our school community have helped make these performances such a special part of school life.
A huge congratulations to all of the students involved, as well as the staff who support and encourage these opportunities. It is wonderful to see our students' hard work and dedication celebrated beyond our school.
