The Katoomba North Public School P&C Association expresses deep concerns regarding the proposed Data Centre's proximity to the school, its potential impact on the well-being of students and their ability to learn unhindered.
We were surprised to discover that the school wasn’t notified of the potential development and that the school has not been referenced in the planning documents at all, and no consideration has been made to the impacts on students well-being.
The surrounding recreational areas are often used for school sporting events, and for after-school play and socialisation.
We are also concerned about the significant drain on the local infrastructure, including, but not limited to:
Energy and water consumption; light, noise and environmental pollution; and the effects on the nearby hospital and local residents.
A 25,000 ltr rain water tank has been proposed to offset water consumption but it hasn’t been included on architectural plans. Instead, two tanks have been included as part of bushfire measures and requirements, not for offset purposes as required and as they have stated. One of the tanks is proposed to be connected to mains water supply, not captured rain water.
The development backs on to Yosemite Creek one of the feed-in creeks for MinneHaHa Water hole - the potential pollution that would run into our creek is alarming. Not to mention the potential risks to local wildlife.
Once one Data Centre is approved it sets a precedent for more to be built in the UNESCO World heritage park that we all call home.
If you wish to oppose the development, letters can be submitted to council before the 08/07/2026.
