Year 9 Outdoor Education students had their second hiking adventure this term.

One group ventured into the Wild Dog Mountains to challenge themselves with the climb over Tinpot Mountain and walk down Ironmonger Spur to camp on The Cox’s River at Breakfast Creek. On Day 2 they walked up Breakfast Creek and back to the bus.

The second group ventured out around The Grand Canyon walking track then into The Megalong Valley to walk on The 6ft Track to camp at Cox’s River Camp. We enjoyed beautiful blue skies then lots of stars overnight.

Well done to all the students who came along for the adventure.

Mr Huxley.

HELP US RAISE MONEY FOR A WORTHY CAUSE...
In Term 3, Year 11 Legal Studies and Year 9 Commerce are teaming up to help change the lives of people experiencing hardship and homelessness through the Orange Sky Sudsy Challenge!

The challenge takes its name from ‘Sudsy’, the first ever laundry van built by Orange Sky co-founders, Nic and Lucas. It took them three days and three sets of washing machines and dryers to get Sudsy operating. They hit the streets of Brisbane, and met Jordan, who was the first person to use the free mobile laundry service. Through this experience, Jordan taught Nic and Lucas that while clean clothes were important, it’s the conversation and connection that mattered more.

The dedicated students and teachers will be wearing the same clothes for three days. And on Wednesday 9 September, we'll hold a 'Trinkets and Treats' sale at recess (cash and card accepted).

Last year the team raised $5,000 and were one of the top twenty teams. This year, with bigger classes we're aiming to beat that total. We have already raised close to $3000, half way to our goal of $6000! All donations are greatly appreciated!

Support us by buying a trinket or treat at the market day or donating online at:

Happy School Support Recognition Week!
The Support Staff at KHS do an outstanding job every day. Their professionalism, kindness and willingness to go that extra mile for our students is second to none. We often get compliments from people about how welcome they feel when they come to the school and how much they appreciate the work our non-teaching staff do.

Our brilliant support team includes our Administration Officers, Business Manager, Tech Support Officers, Community Liaison Officer, Student Support Officer, Counsellors, Kitchen Assistant, Science Assistant, General Assistant, Wellbeing Nurse, Library team, Canteen team, and our incredible team of School Learning Support Officers. Every single one of these critical professional roles supports the amazing educational opportunities our young people experience at Katoomba High.

So this week, we would like to celebrate our support team and reiterate how grateful we are for you. Thank you for everything you do! 💙

Congratulations to our incoming KHS Student Leadership Team!

We are very pleased to announce our 2026/27 Student Leadership Team! Congratulations to our incoming School Captains Zoe and Indu, Vice Captains Miley and Peter, Sports Captains Tom and Kobi, and Prefects Phillippa, Hadil, Caitlin, Elliot, Zoe, Kamryn, Elijah, Melody, Jasper, Holly, Evie, and Sophie-Kate.

Thank you to everyone who applied for leaderships roles this year — putting yourself forward takes great courage. The standard was exceptionally high, and the selection process was very close and difficuly. I am very proud of all of you!

The incoming Captains and Prefect team were inducted last week and received their badges from the current Prefect team. It was a lovely ceremony, attended by many parents, carers, family members and friends, along with Mr Liu, Yr11 Year Adviser and Ms Gibson, Yr11 Deputy Principal. I am so proud of all the students who put their hands up for the roles and hope they gain a lot of their experiences over the next 12 months.

Thank you to Mrs Jeffery for supporting the students, organising the election process and ceremony,to Mrs Hanrahan and the Hospitality team for the delicious morning tea, and to Helen Flint for the lovely photos.

This was the last big event for the current Captain and Prefect team, so I would like to thank them for all their hard work this past year and hope they will remember it fondly and take the skills they have learnt with them on whatever path they take. We look forward to celebrating them at graduation.

Principal
