Measuring Up in Maths! ⚖️

This week, students have been exploring measurement, learning about length, mass and capacity.

Today, they put their learning into practice as they rotated through a series of hands-on measurement challenges. Students measured length using informal units such as paper clips, blocks, counters and dominoes, as well as formal units including millimetres, centimetres and metres. They also practised weighing objects and reading digital and analogue scales, before exploring capacity by investigating how much different containers could hold.

But there was a catch – before measuring anything, students had to estimate first! They then tested their prediction and compared their estimate with the actual result. There was plenty of excitement as students became more accurate, adjusted their thinking and tried to get their next estimate even closer.

It was fantastic to see so much enthusiasm, problem-solving and mathematical thinking as students challenged themselves, celebrated their improvements and enjoyed putting their measurement skills to the test!

Building Confident Readers! ✏️📚

Building strong literacy skills is an important part of every day at our school, which is why we place such a strong focus on explicit literacy instruction across all year levels.

In Prep–Year 2, students are participating in the Read Write Inc. Phonics program, developing their knowledge of sounds and the letters that represent them, and learning how to blend these sounds together to read words. In Years 3–6, students are strengthening their spelling skills through dedicated spelling lessons.

These focused lessons help students strengthen these important skills while giving them plenty of opportunities to practise, apply their learning and build confidence.

It’s wonderful to see our students engaged in their literacy learning and continuing to grow as confident readers and writers!

Science in Action! 🚗💡

Our students have been busy investigating, designing, building and experimenting in Science this term!

Prep–2 students have been exploring push and pull forces by building balloon-powered cars, testing how they move and making improvements to their designs. Year 4 students have been investigating contact and non-contact forces, including gravity, and designing their own forces games to test with classmates. Year 6 students have been discovering how electrical circuits work and putting their learning into action by building their own Steady Hand Games.

With National Science Week underway, the hands-on learning has continued with even more STEM challenges, including paper bridges and marble catapults. There has been plenty of creativity, curiosity and excitement as students make predictions, test their ideas, solve problems and see what works!

We’re loving seeing our students ask questions, experiment, create and discover as they bring Science to life in the classroom!

🏑 Hockey Skills in Action! 🏑

With Festival of Sport just around the corner, students recently had the opportunity to take part in a hockey clinic with Wes and Ester from Aspire Hockey.

Throughout the session, students developed their hockey skills while learning more about positioning, teamwork and the rules of the game. There was plenty of energy and enthusiasm as they took on different activities, challenged themselves and enjoyed learning alongside their classmates.

The session finished with a game, giving students the chance to put their new skills into practice and enjoy some friendly competition on the field.

A big thank you to Wes and Ester for sharing their time and expertise with our students. It was a fantastic session and a great way to build excitement ahead of Festival of Sport!

🥕 From Garden to Table! 🌱

We are excited to share that our school has been accepted into OzHarvest’s FEAST (Food Education and Sustainability Training) program!

Through this curriculum-aligned program, students will explore food waste, sustainability and healthy eating through practical, hands-on cooking experiences.

While we wait for our cooking resources and supplies to arrive, students have already begun putting their learning into action by harvesting fresh produce from our school vegetable garden. They then used some of their harvest to create healthy rice cake snacks, making for a delicious start to the program!

We look forward to sharing our FEAST journey with you! If you would like to be involved in any of our cooking experiences along the way, please let us know.

🏀 Basketball Skills in Action! 🏀

As part of our HPE unit, students were lucky to take part in a special coaching session with Karen, an accredited basketball coach visiting from Victoria.

Throughout the session, students practised a variety of basketball skills, including dribbling, shooting, defending and positioning. There was plenty of enthusiasm as they challenged themselves, encouraged one another and built their confidence on the court.

The session finished with a friendly game, where students showcased what they had learnt, followed by a stretching session to cool down after all their hard work.

A big thank you to Karen for sharing her expertise and making the session such a memorable experience. The students absolutely loved it!
