🎻✨ Old Girl Sophie Curtis (’01) receives international recognition in music education ✨ 🎻

Congratulations to Old Girl Sophie Curtis on receiving the IVMTC Early Career Researcher Award at the International Society for Music Education Conference in Quebec last month.

Sophie was recognised for her outstanding research into chamber music pedagogy, focusing on developing innovative methods for teaching string quartets from the earliest stages of learning.

Since founding the WA Young Artists Chamber Music Program (WAYACHAMP) 15 years ago, Sophie has been a passionate advocate for chamber music education. Her award-winning PhD research is helping shape the future of music teaching, building on a lifelong love of performing and teaching string quartets that began during her time at St Mary's.

We are incredibly proud to see Sophie receiving international recognition for her contribution to music education.

👏 Congratulations, Sophie!

✨ Maroon Mentoring Program Launch ✨

Thank you so much to everyone who joined us last week to celebrate the launch of the St Mary's Maroon Mentoring Program. It was a wonderful evening filled with warmth, connection, and the shared spirit of our Old Girls' community.

A special thank you to our inspiring guest speakers, Brooke Sanderson ('03) Theme Manager, Wellbeing and Mental Health at The Kids Research Institute and Gemma Serjeant ('07') Principal Capability and Talent Adviser at Woodside Energy, whose thoughtful reflections on career, leadership, and the power of connection perfectly captured the spirit of the Program.

At its heart, Maroon Mentoring is about connection. It is about women supporting women through career transitions, leadership journeys, professional growth, new opportunities, and the moments when a trusted perspective can make all the difference.

It was lovely to see everyone chatting, sharing experiences, and getting to know one another. There was a genuine sense of generosity in the room as Mentors and Mentees began building relationships grounded in a shared St Mary's experience, while bringing their own unique stories, careers, and life journeys to the conversation.

We are excited to see the Maroon Mentoring Program grow and the meaningful connections that will emerge from it. If you are interested in participating in a future mentoring round as either a Mentor or Mentee, we would love to hear from you at [email protected] 💖

🎬 Old Girl Chanel Bowen Premieres at Melbourne International Film Festival 🎬

We are delighted to congratulate Old Girl Chanel Bowen (’10) on the premiere of her first feature documentary Hard as Puck at the Melbourne International Film Festival this August, selected as a MIFF Premiere Fund film.

This significant achievement marks the culmination of a four-year journey of creativity, collaboration and dedication to storytelling. Chanel’s work brings to life the resilience and spirit of the local para ice hockey community, following a determined group of players as they strive to keep their grassroots club on the ice in a documentary that is both deeply moving and full of humour.

For our Old Girls based in Melbourne, tickets will be on sale from 9 July. You can find more information here https://miff.com.au/program/film/hard-as-puck

This milestone is a proud moment for the St Mary’s community and a wonderful reflection of Chanel’s talent and commitment to her craft.

✨ Congratulations Chanel. We look forward to following your continued success. ✨
