This term the Yurung Room visited the local river loop again to revisit their previous learning experiences. They tried really hard to spot a platypus however they were not that fortunate on this occasion. Catching the public bus was a great way for our children to access the beautiful landscapes and environments in our local area. They also enjoy a kiddy chino in a local cafe, a wonderful play in the local park and lots of fun and games. Our service is working with QPRC on a river sign to ensure our ducks are feed what keeps them healthy and strong. Stay tuned!!

It's always welcomed to hear feedback and suggestions from families as this supports our continuous improvements. Today we received the following feedback from a new family;

“ Last week, my son started in the Yurrh classroom. At pick up time, just before we reached the door, he excitedly told me how much fun he had that day. Since then, he’s been thrilled to return each day, drop offs have become so easy that he sometimes forgets to say goodbye because he can’t wait to join his new friends for the fantastic activities planned. Although it’s only been three days, it has brought us immense relief. Since moving from Adelaide in January, he hasn’t fully settled in, and drop offs have often been emotional. I want to express my heartfelt gratitude to your team for the genuine care you show in supporting his learning and wellbeing”.

Mura Preschool ventured out on the public bus across to the border to Canberra Lids 4 Kids depot last week. As Mura Preschool has been collecting lids with the intention to create a recycled sustainable mural, we thought some further investigation into sustainable practices may be relevant. We were warmly received by the lids 4 kids volunteers and the children were quickly involved in assisting with the sorting process. They also observed the machinery and process involved in making items such as the picnic benches from melted down recycled bottle tops. Along with bottle lids we also learned that other items are sorted at this location and moved on to other organisations for further repurposing or recycling. As a result of our new knowledge, we became members and have taken a recycling tub back to each preschool room so that families can also be involved in sustainable practices via dropping off their items to our preschool collection point.
We are looking to fundraise to purchase our own bench for preschool in the coming months. Thank you to all the wonderful team at Lids 4 Kids, Fyshwick.

Our Numbat class ventured out at the end of last term in our community to visit the local shops as an extension of our own learning environments and our recent discussions about using google maps and with increasing interests in local landmarks. We visited the laundromat, the hardware shop and the grocery shop. The children really enjoyed speaking to the shop keepers and learning all about what they do in their busy roles noticing everything in their scope from numbers, money, written text and letters and even food choices and groceries etc. We finished off our adventure at the local coffee shop enjoying a kiddy chino and a relaxed chat. These outings may seem simple in nature however they create a sense of connection and belonging to community as outlined in the Early Years Learning Framework V2.0-Outcome 2.

With enrolments offers starting up next month, we are sharing our 2027 timetable for families to start making note of classroom/preschool preferences.

QDPA offer a mix of 2 and 3 day programs across our four preschools - some classes do fill up quickly, so we encourage families to have a couple of options ready in case your first option has been taken.

Just a reminder, once you have secured a spot with QDPA, we do not do swaps or changes to other classes or preschools.

Our Director spent a beautiful day of professional learning alongside other professionals from a variety of organisations and buisnesses discussing, listening, and connecting about our Reconciliation Action Plans all with an amazing with a veiw from the National Museum of Australia. We were welcomed by Aunty Selina Walker who reminded us we have a journey ahead and bought us back to a shared vision for the future. It was also a privlidge to get to hear from Richard Baker, co chair of ACT Reconciliation Council. We particpated in many yarns and included yarn as a medium to get to know each other and make connections. Mura Preschool has a published RAP and is dedicated to its vision.

The words we use about early childhood education matter.

Is it childcare… or early childhood education and care?

According to Early Childhood Australia (ECA), the language we choose shapes how the profession is understood, valued and supported. That's why ECA has released a new guide to help educators, leaders, policymakers and the media talk more consistently about the sector.

The resource encourages conversations that highlight what happens every day in ECEC:

- Children's learning and development
- Strong relationships with families
- Play-based learning
- Educator expertise
- Building stronger communities

It's a timely reminder that every conversation is an opportunity to strengthen public understanding of the critical role early childhood education and care plays in children's lives.

Do you think the way we talk about ECEC influences how the profession is valued?

Children's Safety is paramount and forms our day to day priorities when our children are playing to learn at .

Our children are involved in and consulted on decisions that affect them. So far this year our children have discussed and documented the following to share just some examples:

*Hand and health hygiene
*Respectful play with friends
*Risk assessments and mapping for going out and staying safe on excursions
*How Educators can continue to safely supervise them whilst they explore their need for autonomy and test out capabilities reflecting the educators knowlege of the circle of security model
* Adding to the educators recent meeting discussions about risk vs benifit assessments of our outdoor play spaces.
*making plans for change or adding to learning environments
