🚌 2026 Active Citizenship Convention 🚌

Yesterday, eight of our Year 10 students attended the 2026 Active Citizenship Convention. Students heard from several inspiring South Australian leaders, including Opposition Leader Ashton Hurn, Minister for Education Lucy Hood and Jack Buckskin.

Throughout the day, students interacted with other schools, participated in problem-solving activities and even had the opportunity to record music with Dem Mob! 🎶

It was a fantastic day, and our students learnt how important it is to have a voice and actively participate in their community. 🌟

🎉 THING-A-THON IS JUST ONE WEEK AWAY!!

We can hear the chatter around the yard as students plan their costumes, and the excitement for our whole-school golden event is well and truly building! Next Friday, 28 August, we’ll be hitting the streets of Kapunda for our 10 km walk/run, with students and staff getting into the spirit of Thing-A-Thon along the way. We can’t wait to see the incredible costumes, creativity, and school spirit on display!

A few reminders for the day:
• Bring a water bottle
• Wear a sun-smart hat
• Apply sunscreen
• Wear appropriate, comfortable shoes
• Make sure costumes are appropriate for school
• Lessons 1–3 will run as normal — Thing-A-Thon events begin after recess
• The SRC BBQ will be selling sausages in bread and cans of drink for $2.50 each
• The canteen will also be open as usual

A HUGE thank you to our families and community for your support of Camp Quality! We’ve had a steady stream of sponsorships coming in, and our incredible families have already helped us raise over $500! 🎉

Students who raise more than $25 in sponsorships will also go into the draw to win some fantastic prizes generously donated by local businesses. This allows us to correctly track their fundraising total and enter them into the prize draw.

✨ SSO Week ✨

This week was an opportunity to recognise and celebrate our incredible SSO team and the important and diverse roles they play across Kapunda High School.

Our SSOs are an integral part of our school community. Every day, they work alongside our students, teachers and leaders, contributing to learning, wellbeing, inclusion, intervention, administration and the many things that keep our school running successfully.

Teachers and students expressed their gratitude by presenting personalised “Thank you” cards and hosted a morning tea to mark the occasion.

To our wonderful SSO team, thank you. We are incredibly fortunate to have you as such an important part of Team KHS. 👏

🪃 Aboriginal Learners STEM Congress 🪃

Last week, Mel and Ms Coombs accompanied a group of students to attend the Aboriginal Learners STEM Congress. The Congress gives young Aboriginal learners from Department schools around South Australia the opportunity to come together and learn from others who have made careers in the STEM field, and to discover how STEM knowledge and skills have been used by First Nations people in Australia for tens of thousands of years. The theme for this year’s Congress was "All in: Culture and Future".

The students engaged in workshops about sending messages with light at Adelaide University, as well as building Wiltja's - shelters constructed with different plant materials chosen for their various properties - and creating landing units to successfully achieve safe touchdowns of spacecraft. The students involved had a great time and showed fantastic enthusiasm and curiosity in their endeavours, representing Kapunda High brilliantly. ⚫🟡🔴

During Week 4, Year 10 students had the opportunity to undertake a week of Work Experience.

Thank you to the employers who gave Kapunda High School students this opportunity, and a well done to all students who were involved.🤝

Feedback received has been very positive, with some employment opportunities resulting from the great work of students during the week.
