There’s a lot of talk this time of year on social media around New Years Resolutions and accomplishments.

What people achieved in the last year and what they hope to achieve in the next. Don’t get me wrong, I think these are great things to share. However, the trouble with only hearing these things is that, if you didn’t hit your goals but you think everyone else did - it can put you off setting any ever again.

What many people don’t share, for obvious reasons, is what they set as goals but did not achieve.

So here goes it…

We didn’t have a baby this year… though we are about to.

I didn’t read 3 books this year… I read half of one.

I didn’t meditate regularly… though there was a couple months in there where I did.

I didn’t consistently write… though I have put a plan in place to start now.

I didn’t eat less processed foods… but I did find more ways to incorporate whole foods.

I didn’t always have as much patience in parenthood as I’d like… but I had more than I would have if I never set it as a goal.

My point of sharing this is not to bring the mood down from epic achievements, but rather to show that even if you don’t hit your goals in a calendar year - it doesn’t mean you haven’t made progress.

Maybe you didn’t hit your weight loss goal but you did increase your fitness.

Maybe you didn’t start yoga but you did do a few stretches.

Maybe you didn’t quit drinking but you had less than the previous year.

Maybe you didn’t buy that property but you did save that little bit more money.

Maybe you didn’t get that promotion but you have made it clear you want it.

Goal setting can be an extremely powerful tool at the beginning of a year. Not necessarily setting goals so that you hit them, but rather so that in the year ahead, you’re moving in a direction that you want to be and choose to be moving in.

Don’t let the overwhelm of epic achievements on social media in 2023 to put you off setting goals for yourself in 2024.

Focus on progress over perfection and you’ll never regret setting a goal again.

Some of you reading this will love Christmas and for others it may not be your favourite time of year.

Maybe this year was tough for some or maybe Christmas' every year is tough for others.

No matter what our circumstances though, something we can all do this Christmas is focus on the good.

What good moments did you have this year?

What big or small things did you do or achieve that make you proud?

What significant or seemingly insignificant things did you witness that made you feel positive?

What interactions did you have that brought you warmth?

Whether it be something bigger like starting a new job, having a baby, moving cities, graduating, beginning a new health journey or buying a house.

Or something smaller like meeting a new friend, going on a holiday, seeing an awesome concert or experiencing something you never have before.

Or something even smaller like a sweet interaction with a stranger, a warm conversation with a family member, the reading of a great book or even just a tip-toe out of your comfort zone...

We have all had good in our year, we just need to be looking to find it.

What good did you have this year?

Let's take a moment to appreciate it.

Every day you just have to make the decision, are you going to give up on your goals or press on?

That’s it. Simple. No need to overcomplicate it.

That’s the main thing that stands between failing a goal and succeeding it.

Giving up or pressing on.

Improving body image can sometimes feel like something external, something you don’t have power over, but that couldn’t be further from the truth.

There are so many decisions we make in a day that can influence whether we feel better or worse about our body image.

Things like…
👉 What we say to ourselves
👉 The people we hang around
👉 The accounts we follow
👉 The value we put on our looks
👉 The things we focus on when looking in the mirror

🧠 Transformation of the mind is just as important as transformation of the body.

🚨🚨 Studies show that the enjoyment from goals doesn’t come from the small amount of time we spend celebrating when we reach them, but rather the journey towards reaching them. 🚨🚨

If you’re striving towards goals in your health and fitness, don’t make it a journey filled with self-hate, make it a journey filled with self-love.

Self-love will only ever improve your results ❤️

Life changes when you begin to take ACTION 💪

👉 Nothing changes unless you do!

That’s the hard truth right there ⬆️

Actions don’t have to be big to move you closer to where you want to be. In fact, sometimes the smaller the action is, the more effective it can be over time.

The power lies not in big actions but in small actions you take over time consistently which breed results.

If things are not currently how you want them to be, ask yourself…

What am I going to do TODAY to move myself just one small step closer to where I want to be?
