Perspectives: Strengthening Practice Through Reflection, Wellbeing and Trauma-Informed Education.

Last Friday, our staff came together for Staff Professional Development time, focused on reflection, wellbeing and strengthening our practice through trauma-informed education.

We were excited to welcome Kabinga Mazaba from Melbourne as our guest speaker. Kabinga’s session encouraged some wonderful introspective thinking through storytelling and a guided reflection, giving staff the opportunity to pause and consider what makes us dedicated educators and what drives us in the work we do with our students.

This provided a meaningful lead-in to our ongoing work with Dr Anne Southall and the Reflective Circle Education Model, moving from personal reflection into thinking about how we can support meaningful change in practice.

This work forms part of our ongoing research partnership with Dr Anne, Lindy and the research team at La Trobe University, exploring how reflective practice can support and strengthen trauma-informed education.

We’re excited to continue this important research partnership into 2027, building on the work we have started and continuing to learn, reflect and grow together.

It was a valuable day of professional development, reflection and connection, and a wonderful opportunity for our staff to invest in their practice and in the work we do to support our students.

🏃 Every child deserves the chance to play.
Too many children with disability miss out on community sport. This means they can miss the fun, friendships, confidence and health benefits that sport can bring.

The problem isn't that children don't want to be active. Many families face barriers like not knowing where to start, finding inclusive clubs, or getting the right support.

That's why Sports Focus is working with Bendigo Special Developmental School to learn directly from local families. This survey will help us understand what children enjoy, what gets in the way, and how we can make community sport easier to access.

The City of Greater Bendigo is inviting the community to participate in a survey regarding local public holiday arrangements from 2027.

As your organisation may be impacted by a potential change, we encourage you to take part in the engagement process and share the information with your networks and communities.

Information about the local public holiday and the survey is included below. A flyer and promotional tile are also attached for use in newsletters or other communications channels you may have.

Have your say on local public holiday arrangements

Under the Public Holidays Act 1993, regional councils outside Melbourne can apply to replace the Melbourne Cup Day public holiday with a local public holiday.

The City of Greater Bendigo has sought approval for Bendigo Cup Day to be observed as the local public holiday in the part of the municipality west of the Campaspe River. The approval is usually for five years at a time.

The City is now seeking community feedback on future arrangements.

Residents are invited to select their preferred public holiday option for 2027 and beyond:

Bendigo Cup Day

Bendigo Show Day
